Well-known iOS developer Ryan Petrich has just released a new free beta jailbreak tweak on his beta repository called LockStep for keeping track of your number of steps right from the Lock Screen.

It replaces the Slide to Unlock text with a number followed by the word "steps," which represents the number of steps you've taken, and therefore, you'll know how far you've walked since the last time you reset the step counter.

LockStep is only compatible with the iPhone 5s, as it takes advantage of the M7 motion co-processor in the device to capture the steps that you take. Since the M7 motion co-processor is not present in the iPhone 5 and earlier, the tweak will not work on those devices.

It's worth mentioning that LockStep integrates with Activator so that you can easily reset your step counter to start all over again:

  • tap on the Manage tab
  • tap on the Sources button
  • tap on the Edit button
