Default 'handyPhone' Enhances the Features and Usability of the Phone App's Keypad

While the iPhone's Phone application in iOS 7 comes loaded with several standard smartphone features, there are many ways that the feature set could be enhanced with accessibility and user shortcuts to make it quicker and easier to use.

A new free jailbreak tweak called handyPhone by iOS developer whynot is now available in Cydia that gives the Phone application a number of new features to make using the keypad less cumbersome and more intuitive.

For starters, the tweak adds a new feature allowing you to type in a user's name or phone number using the T9 keypad keys, and the name will auto-complete in the name field at the top of the application. This is a handy way to quickly choose a contact to call right from the dial pad. On the other hand, you also have the option to simply go to the Contacts section of the Phone application and pick who you want to call, so it's just a matter of preference.

The tweak also moves the location of the "Add to Contacts/Create New Contact" button and the backspace button so they're to the left and right of the green call button. These buttons are normally right under and to the right of the phone number at the top of the application.

The subtle changes to the Phone application seem very useful and work very nicely with the native interface of the application. If you would like to give handyPhone a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak does require iOS 7 to be installed.

    This is fantastic.
    Huge love to the developer.
I must say, I haven't tested it throughly & have only been running it for a couple hours.
    So far stellar.
An elegant step forward for the phone app.
    Thank you.
