Default T-Mobile, BlackBerry to Discontinue Partnership

In what comes as another devastating blow to BlackBerry's consumer reach, T-Mobile will cease selling BlackBerry phones later this month.

We're told that all sales will conclude as of April 25th, news that caught many subscribers off guard today. Fortunately for BlackBerry owners currently on T-Mobile, these customers won't be cut off. In fact, they will still be able to use their phones and even receive product support in the future. But when their contracts are up, renewal won't be an option.

"Regretfully, at this time, our strategies are not complementary and we must act in the best interest of our BlackBerry customers," BlackBerry CEO John Chen stated Wednesday afternoon.

According to some, however, the writing has been on the wall for quite some time now with regard to this development. After all, only a few short months ago, T-Mobile began encouraging subscribers on BlackBerry to switch to Apple's iPhone.

They'll be dropping support, but I'm sure the BlackBerry phones will continue to work as usual.

As for the renewal part, why would you renew your contract? There are no contracts with T-Mobile now, am I right? You want a BlackBerry phone, just buy an unlocked one and bring it over.

Speaking of T-Mobile, I just had my unlocked AT&T iPhone 5 replaced by Apple due to a bad lightning port. It was working great where ever there was LTE signal, but when there wasn't, it reverted to EDGE. That was pretty annoying. I must have gotten one of the later iPhone 5 that was made to work specifically with T-Mobile frequencies because now I have LTE or 4G everywhere, just like when I was with AT&T.

I was about to give up on T-Mobile and go with Net10 or some other service that piggy backs off AT&T, but now my confidence in T-Mobile has been renewed! I pay $59/month unlimited everything with my discount.

Bad news for bb regardless as it's now a sign the networks expect them to fail! Think they simply failed to read the market and underestimated the comp from iOS and android!
