Starbucks recently released version 3.0 of its app, adding digital tipping, a new “flat” iOS 7 look, and “shake-to-pay” features. Starbucks is one of the first companies to have rechargeable payment card support in Passbook on Apple devices. In version 3.0 of the Starbucks app, the most noticeable update is the new visual redesign. The design theme follows Apple’s “flat” iOS 7 look with a simple interface, Helvetica Neue font, and a missing skeuomorphic graphics.

The latest version has an updated dashboard, where customers can find recent transactions, reward levels, available rewards, and more. It also allows users to access their entire account history with information like stars earned, rewards redeemed, and purchases. In an attempt to publicize its loyalty program a little more, they have added a way to share reward level milestones to social network websites as well.

Starbucks 3.0 has some new features including a virtual tipping service for participating U.S. stores. Customers have up to two hours after purchasing from Starbucks to tip and/or change the amount given to the barista. So now you can have a taste of your new Latte and still have ample time to decide if you would like to tip the person who made it. Coffee lovers will receive push notifications for each eligible transaction.

Lastly, the new “shake-to-pay” feature allows users to shake their iPhones, which will bring up the barcode baristas need at the register for payment acceptance.

Starbucks is a 23.7MB download from the App Store for free.
