Default Apple Preparing Software Update to Fix Touch ID Becoming Less Accurate Over Time

Back in December of last year, we had reported that a number of iPhone 5s users were experiencing issues with Touch ID losing accuracy over time. After having just calibrated the Touch ID sensor, a few weeks or months later, users would report varying results with the Touch ID sensor almost like it was 'forgetting' the user's fingerprints over time and they would have to re-calibrate the Touch ID sensor all over again.

Citing AppleInsider, Apple is reportedly aware of the issue and is reportedly working on a software update for the iPhone 5s that will fix this 'fading' problem causing the Touch ID sensor to lose its accuracy over time.

Obviously, many iPhone 5s users take advantage of this Touch ID feature, and it's very important that the feature works correctly in order to ensure the greatest amount of security and reliability for the user. It can become frustrating the user if the device doesn't recognize their fingerprint, and it reduces the user experience value of the device.

Luckily, those that have issues with Touch ID on their iPhone 5s can alternatively use a passcode to gain entry to their device.

For now, those experiencing this problem will have to either deal with the fade, use a passcode instead, or continue re-calibrating their Touch ID sensor until this reported software update comes out.

It's actually supposed to get better at recognizing your fingerprint over time. For me it works but I guess the same software causes the opposite effect in some cases.

5s since release day here... I only re did my prints once after realizing I didn't scan them from a variety of angles including sideways and upside down... Worked like a champ ever since from any angle or orientation... Only time it doesn't work for me is at work if my fingers are too wet or greasy... Totally bypass the pass code with the Touch ID and love it! Also my sensor seems to be just as good as day one if not better and that's with BioProtect, Itouchsecure and Virtual Home all installed and running all the time... My advice is: reprogram your prints but with a full 360 degree rotation with your prints, reboot device once a day, and periodically wipe the home button down of accumulated funk... Maybe a software release will clear up some issues for those that aren't having a good Touch ID experience... I really thought that Touch ID was some semi-lame gimmicky ish at first but feel now like its a major feature for me...

And seriously all 3 of the Touch ID tweaks I listed above are amazing and have worked like a charm and played nice with each other...

I've heard enough people on this site complain about this that I imagine there's some truth to it, but I personally haven't experienced it at all.

I wonder what is the cause and why a software fix will work it out if it doesn't effect everyone?

I can scan my thumb for all the fingers and within 3 days my success rate is 50 %. Oddly, biolockdown works like a charm.
Thanks a lot to Sk37cH, DjeTouch, Alfroggy, Maxone, Jusephe and Meth. My phone would be boring without them.

I've had issues with cold fingers, or wet fingers. The iPhone doesn't like to read them. It will after my hand warms up.

Have yet to have a problem with mine. I have my phone in a lifeproof nuud case from the moment i took it out of the box. I even set up the touch ID with the case on.

Never had a problem with it "forgetting" my prints. But it's noticeable for me that it seems to take the phone slightly longer to scan and unlock after about a week. Where as when I first set it up it seems to work instantaneous

    Your fingerprint changes over time.

Hmmm... I have no problems on my iPhone 5S 15GB model. It has been working flawlessly for me

Once I scanned my thumbprint using the "ball" and not just the end, it worked much better. I just have to be sure to put my whole thumb over the sensor and it works fine- has for a few months now.

Unless it's the software that can't remember what the fingerprint looks like, I personally think it may be a hardware problem

I must be the only one with a 5S that doesn't use Touch ID! :-) So not a problem!

I use the Touch ID with Virtual Home from cydia and no problems so far. Just like Sage | said- make sure to scan from all angles and the home button is clean.

Never had the problem either since release date. Tell them to hold up. I need to re-jailbreak to 706!

Your fingerprint "Never" changes, that's how law enforcement is able to catch perpetrators in long term crimes, plus DNA but the fingerprint itself never changes, I think what people are having trouble with is oils, lotions, and other tiny things that are throwing off the print scanner, IMO anyway

Has anyone ever tried to use their mushroom stamp to unlock their phone?
