Default iPhone App Wins Top Honors at Launch Festival 2014

A wide variety of creative tech startups and entrepreneurs flocked to San Francisco this week for the annual LAUNCH Festival, which is billed as the tech industry's biggest startup competition.

Evaluated by a small panel of seasoned entrepreneurs, some 50 startups formally launched their enterprise at LAUNCH in hopes of winning top honors - a $200,000 investment grand prize. This hefty chunk of change was won by past LAUNCH festival standouts, including notables like Yammer, Drobox, Mint, Hipmunk, and Boxbee.

Last night, however, it was the team at Connect, the maker of a new iPhone app, that won the grand prize at LAUNCH. Connect is a new location-based address book and friend-finder platform that lets users know who is close in proximity.

"Connect was built to make it easier to stay connected to your friends throughout life," the company says of its service. "Connect shows all your friends from social networks on a map, and can notify you when they are nearby. You can see where friends have checked in recently, as well as the cities they live in around the world. Connect was designed so that all your friends from Facebook, Instagram, Foursquare, iPhone Contacts, Google Contacts, and LinkedIn show up on your map - so, from the very start, your map will have hundreds of your people on it."

Big Brother, Sister, Father, Mother, Friend, etc., etc. can know your every move. At least we still have the option of not installing these apps to maintain some sort of privacy.
