Default 'MessageRenamer7' Lets You Re-name Conversations in Your iOS 7 Messages App

Back in August, we showed you a tweak called MessageRenamer by iOS developer Atlas Wegman that allowed you to re-name individual conversations in the Messages application. The developer has just launched a new version of the tweak called MessageRenamer7 that has been re-written from the ground up with iOS 7 compatibility, and is now available in Cydia.

With MessageRenamer7 installed, when you tap and hold on any conversation in your Messages application, whether it's a group conversation or an individual person, you will get two new buttons in the Action Menu Rename and Reset. When you tap on the Rename button, you will be given a text box where you can enter the name that you want to display in thread view instead of the regular name of the person that you're texting.

Because I sometimes refer to my buddy Akshay as Shaybeans, I want to re-name the conversation to Shaybeans. So I'll put "Shaybeans" in the text box, and then tap on the "Set" button to save the conversation name as "Shaybeans" rather than "Akshay Masand." If at any time I want to return the name back to normal, I can tap and hold on the conversation again, and tap the "Reset" button rather than the "Rename" button.

MessageRenamer7 is pretty simple to use, and the tweak has no options to configure. Unlike the original MessageRenamer, which is free, MessageRenamer7 is 99 in Cydia's BigBoss repository. MessageRenamer only supports iOS 6 and earlier, while MessageRenamer7 support iOS 7 and earlier. MessageRenamer7 is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit iOS devices.

    Name: MessageRenamer7
    Price: 99
    Version: 2.0.1
    Requirements: iOS 5+
Tested on: iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.4
    Repo: BigBoss
    Developer: Atlas Wegman
    Editor's Rating:  5/5

I use MessageRenamer on my iP5/iOS 7 and it works fine. The only issue I've run into is I have to disable Action Menu before I can rename a message.

Anyone know if it's compatible with bitesms or not?
