Default 'MusicAppMods' Lets Your iPhone's Music Application Show Inline Song Info and More

Having a little extra control over your Music application on any of your iOS devices is never a bad idea. Apple made a very capable music playing application, but there are a number of things that can be done to customize the application and make it fit the needs of the user more.

A new jailbreak tweak called MusicAppMods by iOS developer Adam Spindler is one such jailbreak tweak that will allow you to modify the abilities of your Music application on your iOS device.

One of the features that MusicAppMods gives to the user is the ability to tap and hold on a song while in the song list view in order to bring up song information that is normally hidden from the user, as shown above. The song information will show you the following for the song that you tap and hold on:

    • The artist of the album
    • The amount of times that you've played the song
    • The duration of the song
    • Whether or not the song is in the cloud
    • The amount of skips
    • The release date of the song
    • The track number of the song
    • The album track count

The other major feature that MusicAppMods gives the user is the ability to either hide or show album artwork in-line with the song names in Song view in the Music application:

This feature may be handy for a handful of people that are searching for a song by its song name, as the album artwork isn't necessarily a useful feature in this case. The album artwork works best when searching for music by the album, and not by the song. In this case, the album art just serves as unnecessary clutter.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can enable or disable either of these two features on demand with two on/off toggle switches:

It should be noted that MusicAppMods will only be useful for those that use the stock Music application to store and listen to their favorite tracks. This tweak will not do anything for Spotify, Pandora, or Rdio users, in addition to any other third-party music-playing applications that you might be using. For those that actually do use the stock Music application, this tweak might be worth giving a shot.

You can find MusicAppMods in Cydia's BigBoss repository for 99.

I love it it brings the ios6 feel back. I don't know why they added album art when looking for a song. Completely useless apple.

I'll consider getting it if it is updated to allow you to customize what field is shown when you tap and hold the song and also to allow for all of the other input fields that iTunes lets you enter to be shown (e.g. Composer, Comments, etc.).
