Default 'ClipShot' Gives You Additional Flexibility in Taking Screenshots in iOS

Chances are you've used the screenshot function in iOS pretty often. This feature allows you to save an image of your screen at the time that you snap the screenshot. It really comes in handy in a pinch.

A new free jailbreak tweak called ClipShot by iOS developer Oliver Kuckertz aims to extend the screenshot functionality in iOS by giving the user additional features and customization.

Perhaps the most notable improvement ClipShot gives to those that take screenshots is the ability to choose at the time that a screenshot is taken whether they want the screenshot to be saved to the Camera Roll, or to be copied to the Clipboard to be pasted somewhere. At the time that the screenshot is taken, the user will get the prompt shown above, asking them what it is that they want to do.

The tweak adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where the user can configure just a few other options for taking screenshots:

The first option gives the user the ability to choose what happens when they take a screenshot they can choose for the tweak to ask them what to do, for the screenshot to be automatically saved to the Camera Roll, or for the screenshot to be automatically copied to the Clipboard. Users can also choose for the screenshot to always be copied to the Clipboard, no matter what option may have been selected above.

The preferences also give the user the ability to enable or disable the camera flash, enable or disable the shutter sound, enable or disable Photo Stream for screenshots, and choose whether or not they want the currently-opened notification to know whether or not a screenshot was taken.

For the ability to easily add screenshots to your Clipboard alone, this tweak might come in handy for many of you. It seems to work great in all of our testing, and it makes it really easy to paste screenshots into certain places, rather than having to dig through the Camera Roll for the screenshot.

If you want to give ClipShot a try, it's available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak is open source, and the source code can be viewed on Github via this link.

I wonder if this program is similar to the old school Erica Sadun's screenshot program? That program was useful because you could trigger the binary via SSH to grab screen shots when the iphone's system wasn't accepting input (i.e. when the springboard was restarting and the beach ball was there?) Try to get that picture (without cheating by faking the graphic) with the home button and power button.
