Default 'Slo-mo Mod' Enables Slow Motion Video Capture on Some Unsupported iOS 7 Devices

Apple included a new feature with the iPhone 5s that lets users capture video in "slow motion." What it's actually doing is recording video at 60 frames per second and then slowing it down to normal speed when it's played back. Other newer devices that aren't the iPhone 5s, such as the iPhone 5, iPod touch 5g, iPad Mini with Retina Display, and iPad Air support 60 frames per second, but don't actually let you record video in slow motion like you can on the iPhone 5s.

A new free jailbreak tweak called Slo-mo Mod by iOS developer PoomSmart enables the slow motion video capture on older devices that don't support the feature out of the box.

When you install the tweak, you'll get a new "Slo-Mo" option in the iOS 7 Camera application that you can swipe to in order to begin capture video in 60 frames per second mode, as shown above. The application indicates that you're recording in 60 frames per second near the red record button.

Slo-mo Mod also adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can configure some of the tweak's options:

You'll be able to manually configure the frame rate that the device records in (note: you should only change this if you have a device capable of recording in the frame rate that you choose, or you will experience issues trying to record video); you can pick frame rates of 30, 60, or even 120. You can also force slow motion recording for all videos that you record, easily enable or disable slow motion on demand, change the slow motion rate, and more.

For a tweak that unlocks a feature normally off limits for non-iPhone 5s devices, we'd say this tweak is worth checking out. On some devices, it runs smoother than others. Just be careful with your settings, and you can make the tweak run optimally.

If you want to give Slo-mo Mod a try, it's available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository. It requires iOS 7, and you'll want to use a newer iOS device with a somewhat decent processor for the best results.

    Name: Slo-mo Mod

    Requirements: iOS 7.0-7.0.4
Tested on: iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.4

It doesn't work on the 4S. I couldn't even open the camera app.

You might have to change framerate to 30 fps

    works awesome on the IP5!

when I share a vid to Facebook, it doesn't have the slo mo effect. Any way to lock the effect in for sharing?

and again a jb mod does it better than the real apple version.

    Do you guys even read?!?

Works great on my iPhone 5. BTW you'll need to also download the author's BurstMode tweak.

How does the burst mode work?

  15. #12
This is actually wrong, the iPhone 5S is capable of shooting at 120fps not 60.

works at 60fps on my iP5 but the slo-mo effect is not exported to iPhoto.
how do you save the slo-mo effect ?

it's pretty worthless if you can't save the effect !

To use Burst Mode, you launch the Camera app and ensure that you're using either the Photo or the Square setting.
Next, frame your shot and then tap and hold on either the shutter release button on the screen, or the volume-up key.

just need to make it so the slow mo stays when you upload it to instagram and not just in the camera role

Haven't tried this yet but as others have said it doesn't save the slow motion effect when uploading isn't this pointless?

Edit - just tried to share and it's normal speed this is kind of pointless until you can actually share as a slow motion video.

The normal slomo on my 5s is the same way. I've been able to keep the slomo by emailing the video to myself but messaging or uploading plays it at regular speed. It's been like this since the release. Am definitely going to try this out on my 5 though.
