Default 'CamBlur7' Gives Your iOS 7 Camera App a Blurred Interface Instead of Black

iOS 7 took a risky leap to all new interface styles and made everything look flatter. One of the applications that just doesn't seem complete in iOS 7 is the Camera application, which was given a black border where all of the buttons appear.

A new free jailbreak tweak called CamBlur7 by iOS developer Poomsmart will transform the Camera application interface so that the interface appears with the great-looking aesthetic appeal of a transparent blur rather than as a black border, as shown above.

The transparent interface not only looks better, but is also manages to make the Camera application interface look less constraining.

When you install CamBlur7, you will actually be installing two jailbreak tweaks (Cydia installs both CamBlur7 and TransparentCameraBar at the time of installation automatically). The tweak that gives you this blurred interface and lets you tweak it to your liking is CamBlur7, but this tweak piggybacks off of TransparentCameraBar's ability to give the Camera interface a transparent appearance.

To use the tweak, you'll head over the the TransparentCameraBar tweak's preferences pane and simply turn on the "Enable" switch:

One you do that, you're finished in the TransparentCameraBar preferences pane. The next pane you'll look at is the CamBlur7 preferences pane, which is also located in the Settings application:

From here, you can enable or disable the blur effect in the Camera application, choose to hide the blur effect when you’re in the camera effects view, opt to hide the blue effect when recording video in different situations, and choose your blur radius. These options handle the actual blur effect that this CamBlur7 tweak gives to your Camera application, so you can set these to however you want them.

The blur is live, so as you are moving your camera around, you will see the picture move through the blur of the camera interface. It's a really neat effect to add to the devices of those that like making their devices unique from everyone else's, and most importantly, it's free.

If you want to give CamBlur7 a try, it's available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak is fully compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit iOS devices, whether it's an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad of any sort.

Huh? On my iPhone 5s, it's already like that when video mode is selected. The blackness shows the aspect of the photos versus videos.

Anyway, the tweak is glitchy, even in MMi's screenshot. The status bar and battery indicator are visible (barely) and overlap with the camera flip control. When I select video mode on my non-jailbroken 5s (so the UI turns clear to indicate that the video recording is 16:9), the glitchy status bar is not there.

It's not the tweak that is glitchy causing the status bar issue. It's the jailbreak it's self. View a photo on your 5s in full screen and you will see the status bar is still there.
