Default 'BioProtect' Lets You Protect Your Apps, App Switcher Using Touch ID

iPhone 5s users can now add an additional layer of security to their device that utilizes the built-in Touch ID sensor hardware. A new jailbreak tweak dubbed BioProtect is available in Cydia from iOS developer Elias Limneos. The developer teased the tweak at the end of December.

With BioProtect, users can keep unwanted eyes from getting into their applications and personal data. The tweak takes advantage of the iPhone 5s' Touch ID sensor, and requires the user to scan their fingerprint each time they try to open an application from the home screen. If the fingerprint can't be verified, then the application will not open. The tweak will also let users protect the App Switcher with Touch ID, preventing the App Switcher from being accessed if the fingerprint cannot be verified.

BioProtect adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can enable or disable the tweak on demand, enable or disable App Switcher protection, choose to have the device vibrate if the wrong fingerprint is scanned, choose the button color, and choose the applications that you want to have protected with Touch ID:

The button color pane is pretty cool. There are three different buttons colors you can choose from black, silver, and gold. You can pick the one that matches your iPhone 5s for the best look and feel.

Using Touch ID to protect your applications is much more effective than using tweaks that let you use passcode authentication, because if someone watches over your shoulder and sees your passcode, then they have access to your device. On the other hand, if they see you use your fingerprint, then so what? Their fingerprint is different.

It should be noted that this tweak only runs on the iPhone 5s, as it relies on the Touch ID sensor. You cannot install this tweak on any other iOS device. If you want to give BioProtect a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for $2.99.

    Name: BioProtect
    Price: $2.99
    Version: 0.1-460
    Requirements: iOS 7.0-7.0.4, iPhone 5s
    Repo: BigBoss
    Developer: Elias Limneos

Very nice! Better than "Restrictions" that comes native on iOS. No one wants to type out a pw when you can use a finger print..good stuff!

I have a similar tweak called BioLockdown by Ryan Petrich.

Would be good to know if there are any major differences between this and the above mentioned tweak. I have been using this one and found it great but both guys are awesome devs with some brilliant stuff. Be interested in a comparison between the two.

    BioLockDown
    And Virtual Home

Work we'll together I'm trying to get Ryan to apply more touch like Virtual Home to his Bio Lock but he is having trouble under standing the way I've mailed him can some one mail him and ask once you guys have both of these installed you will see what I mean
Then take Virtual Home off then you will see what's needed in his Bio Lock

This tweak for this thread will not work with either of these it's good but could be a lot better Bio Lock and home are compete and work really we'll

    Happy new year all

BioLockDown by Petrich is excellent (and $1 cheaper). Ability to lock specific switches and settings panes in addition to apps.

i too saw this a few days ago.
after reading its description, my first thought was, what happens to those app that are bio locked if the bio sensor fails.
i asked its maker, still no reply.

i just asked Ryan the same about his version.

The native touch ID is faulty, every 5 to 7 days it stops reading my print and I have to redo it all over again. Also every 5 days or so the AppStore purchase touchID also ask me for passcode to confirm. Very frustrating. Hopefully this tweak is more precise. And is there a passcode override?

I've used both and they both work great. With BioLockDown you get the ability to lock certain switches and functions in the settings pane that you don't get with Bio Protect. What I love most about BioLockDown as you can now set a grace period before having to reenter you finger print. This comes in huge when you keep getting back to back texts. One problem when using this with Virtual Home is many times I leave my finger on the scanner for too long and it pops up the multi-tasking instead of the app I was opening. I am hoping Virtual Home comes out with a longer delay for opening up Multi-tasking. So while they both work great, BioLockDown has a few more features and is less expensive.

Oh and BioLockDown makes the screen shot of protected apps blurry in multi-tasking. In case people try to be sneaky.

I have to reinstall a new ispw from iTunes phones is stuffed clock batt from status bar is now missing as well as the ID problem

re: Virtual Home, I uninstalled that and am using Activator to set the TouchID to act as a home button. That, w/ BioLockDown, seems to be a winning combo -- and I can still take screenshots.

Great tweak, used for a while does have a few bugs but what doesn't these days?
As for those having problems with the sensor to fix you need to go to the bathroom and wash hands thoroughly and clean the home button too with a cleaning cloth
dont you hate it when someones signature looks like someones post?

In theory the app is great; however, it fails to read fingerprint every couple of days. Also, multiple emails to the dev. with no response is bad for business. That said, I would try the other quoted app/tweak.
