Default 'Purge' Offers iOS 7 Users an Easy Way to Kill All Apps in the App Switcher at Once

The iOS 7 untethered jailbreak was released only a couple of days ago, and Cydia has been updated Tuesday morning to version 1.1.9 with a revamped user interface for iOS 7. Following these events, jailbreak developers are now making useful new jailbreak tweaks for iOS 7.

Now available in Cydia for iOS 7 users is a new free jailbreak tweak called Purge by iOS developer Sirifl0w. With Purge, you can easily close out of all the applications suspended in the App Switcher to quickly free up some of your device's memory.

To do this, the user needs to just hold down on an open application for a few seconds, and the prompt shown above will appear, asking if the user wants to kill all applications. The user can then choose yes or no tapping on yes will close all of the applications in the App Switcher and bring the user back to the interface that they were in.

Purge is slightly different from another tweak we showed you on Tuesday called SwitchSpring, which also lets users kill all suspended applications, in addition to respring the device. The execution of this tweak is different, as well as the function, but SwitchSpring has more to offer and may be a better choice in choosing between the tweaks.

If you want to give Purge a try, it's available for free in Cydia's BigBoss repostiory. It doesn't have any options to configure. Purge is only for iOS 7, and should not be installed on iOS 6.

    Name: Purge
    Price: FREE
    Version: 1.0-2
    Requirements: iOS 7.0-7.0.4
    Repo: BigBoss
    Developer: Sirifl0w
    Editor's Rating:  4/5

NOTE: MobileSubstrate isn't ready for the 64-bit architecture yet, nor are many jailbreak tweaks, including this one. Install on 32-bit devices only until further notice.

Has MobileSubstrate been updated yet? No. Try using your brain before you ask stupid questions.

Those apps don't require Mobile Substrate to function. Tweaks that require Mobile Substrate will run into the problem you described with not working on 64-bit systems.

    Hi,

This is not working for me. I have iPad air wifi and iPhone 4 GSM both on iOS 7.0.4 and jail broken. Nothing happens when I install this tweak, respring, open multitasking bar and long press an icon as suggested in the tool. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Likewise, he asked about tweaks, you listed apps, there's a difference. Apps have no dependency on MS

Does work for me either. So far no tweak does

I guess we need to give some time to folks until they sort out all the issues. It's too early to expect things to be working across all the products. Fingers crossed!!

Hi Rcworship, which model iPhone is yours and what procedure you followed to install? Like I said? I have AT&T unlocked iPhone 4 running 7.0.4 and it's not working on that. Neither on my iPad air which is understandable as it's 64 bit and Mobile substrate is not yet updated

    Hi,

Not sure if this will work on iPhone-5 (it should since iPhone-5 is also 32 bit), but this is how I got Purge working on my iPhone-4

    1. Install Purge from Cydia (if Mobile Substrate is already not installed, selecting Purge will also install Mobile Substrate)
    2. Cydia will ask for a respring, go ahead and do it.
    3. After respring, open Cydia, go to installed packages, select Mobile Substrate, Modify & reinstall. No respring at this time
    4. Go back to Purge, select modify and reinstall. This time, after Purge reinstall, Cydia will ask for a respring, go ahead and do it.
    5. Once the device is back after respring, Purge will be in action when you double click home button to bring up multitasking tray and long press any of the open apps.

These are the exact steps that worked on my iPhone 4 (AT&T unlocked) on iOS 7.0.4, jailbroken using evasi0n7.

The same steps are not working on my iPad Air wifi only model running iOS 7.0.4, jailbroken using evasi0n7. But that's ok I guess. It's probably due to Mobile Substrate not yet ready for 64 bit version of iOS 7. Will post once that starts working as well.

Hope these steps help few of you at least. Merry christmas, happy new year in advance and thanks a million to dev team for releasing this jailbreak.
