Default All New App Store App Submissions Need to Be Optimized for iOS 7 Starting February 1st

On Tuesday, Apple made the announcement that new applications being submitted in the App Store will need to be optimized for iOS 7 and built with the latest version of Xcode starting February 1st as a part of a move to ensure the smoothest upgrade experience for end users.

Applications that are submitted to the App Store after February 1st that do not meet these requirements will not be allowed into the App Store until they are optimized for Apple's latest operating system using Xcode 5.

It is a common problem with App Store applications where iOS developers will continue releasing small bug fixes for legacy operating system versions, but will neglect to add support for newer versions of the operating system either because an application re-design is too much work, or because there are too many changes in the new operating system that would require a lot of the application to be re-written all over again.

This is less common with highly popular applications by companies that have the money, time, and resources to actually get the work done, but more common among smaller, less-popular applications in the App Store.

In this move, Apple is pushing developers to ensure that the applications they provide in their online store are ready for the end users, which are more than likely using Apple's latest operating system. It's always good to see Apple making moves like this to keep application upgrades as easy as possible for iOS device users.

I feel like all new apps should have to be optimized for iOS 7 by now.

iOS 7 was the biggest ravamp to the UI/core functions to the OS since it debuted. With over 1 million apps on the store it's gonna take a little while for them to be updated 😜

It wouldn't be all apps, it would be all new apps.

I know, what I meant was if develops decide to update legacy apps, even if everyone started at the announcement it would take a very long time update everyone one
