This type of emotional reaction shows the bs argument and the type of person it comes from. There are people saying that their device works and you wanna hop in all "teenage girl." You STFU and return your device if you are having problems that are significant enough to dislike the product, I believe it's your right to get a full refund.

**** apple AND the crybabies. 5 of 6 people say that their phone is fine. So the 6th person has a right to get theirs fixed or return it, but be damned if EVERYONE should be up in arms about.

Now, stare at your phone and cry about it.

you're kidding right? people spend hundreds of dollars for their phones, and thousands more in subscriber fees and your silly *** suggest people "get a bumper and stop crying?"

Apple called a lot of bluffs with the full refund return and hardly anyone responded.
    I'll be calling their bluff.

I'll first say that I've not dropped a call because of the antenna issue. BUT considering the ways I hold the phone almost all result in a finger touching the trouble spot and the sizable drop in dBm I experience at those times, it's inevitable.

Also, my data rate plummets when I hold the phone in my left hand (like righties typically do when browsing the web and pecking with their right hand).

My biggest issue by far, however, is the proximity sensor. in Saturday night, I hung up on an important call 4 times (may have been 5). the phone never left my cheek. the day before that, it tried to dial someone on 3-way in the middle of my call. and yesterday, it muted my calller twice. during none of those times was the phone removed from my ear.

So why haven't I taken the phone back? I've simply been biding my time trying to decide what to do next. Will I switch my service to Sprint (Evo 4G)? Wait to see if Apple redesigns the antenna? buy a 3GS online for cheap and roll with that for a year (face time is a gimmick, though I'd miss the high quality video recording)? wait a few more months and see what Android OS 3.0 ("Gingerbread") has to offer on those high-powered phones? See what Windows 7 Phones are going to look like in November? and do I want to jump to another service and forever give up my true unlimited AT&T plan?

There are so many possibilities and questions right now...hard to know which is the best. But I have 2 weeks with this phone to decide. I'll be taking it back on the 29th day, as that's most convenient for me. But for the first time in a long time, Apple may not be retaining my money. My most obvious move is to just reactivate my 3G and reinstall OS 3.1.2 (OS4 is dog slow) or find a cheap 3GS on eBay. Evo 4G is quite tempting too.

    we'll see.

Why do people state get a bumper? Wouldn't the bumper cover this area up as well and make it worse? Also how would a firmware update fix hardware location and signal?

Fair enough, my statement is not to step on those who want and DESERVE quality in what they purchase, it more or less speaks to those that are completely trashing a product that they simply can return and go elsewhere. It just gets old.

I COMPLETELY agree with you on the proximaty sensor. I often use bluetooth so I don't deal with it as much but i've muted a few calls on accident. However, its silly to suggest that someone go out and buy another product to solve their initial product issues (i.e. a bumper, bluetooth, peice of tape)

It should work out of the box the way YOU want it to, if it doesn't, return it and get something that does.

Because most of the people who buy Apple products at the initial launch are part of the Apple cult and wouldn't even return it if they found out the product was secretly poisoning them.

    Fact.

the bumper would cover the antenna area just as it is covered in most phones, so no. Has more to do with your hand being conductive (of some sort) and changing the sensitive tuning of the antenna.
    Really?

It is amazing to me how stupid Apple fanboys are! They are actually defending Apple and are willing to accept an iPhone that has a major design flaw. It makes no sense what's so ever! I am an Apple fan. I have 2 MacBook Pro's and the first 3 iPhones but I don't like Apple that much where I'm gonna let them screw me over and then defend them for doing it. People really are unbelievable.

Or they know that apple will fix the product and make good on it somehow. Considering their customer service is among the top, out of all electronics manufacturers.
    Really?

Indeed. I wish I hadn't sold my iPhone 3GS. I don't mind waiting for an iphone 4 fix, but who knows if they will allow free swaps or what after the dust has settled and they have a working iPhone 4
    Really?

lol, Maybe that's the reason. You spend more energy running to a message board to complain about it, scowering the internet to find proof, and insulting those that are fine with theirs than to just return it.

Maybe the antenna issue is decoding people's brains..

This would be a brilliant statement if most of those people weren't just saying that they don't have the stated issue with their device.

You guys act like people are in denial lol...Some people don't have the same issue. Those that do should have every right to get their money back.

    My 2 cents worth ...

    I don't, and didn't.

The "wisdom" you provided is worth far less than 2 cents.

Your "5 of 6" statistic is very interesting. How did you quantify the accuracy of that ratio?

Why do some of you think anyone who is "happy" with their i4 is a fanboy? Perhaps some of us feel that even with this issue, for the way they use their phone, it is the BEST available for them?

That's where I am. I've been able to replicate the death grip or even the finger touch on phones in the Apple store. however, in practice on mine, I still get better reception than I did with the 3G or 3GS at home and in my office with the i4.

With a case, I cannot replicate the issue. Per the tests, putting case on it largely alleviates the issue. I ALWAYS have a case on my phone. I value my phones far too much not to.

Do I know there's a potential flaw in the design? Yes. Does it affect me? No. Can I still do what I want with the phone if I had to? Yes. Is there any other phone out there that would meet the needs and uses I have better? No. Sure I could go with an Android phone. But I happen to like AT&T. AT&T's Android offerings are limited. Even if I was willing to switch from AT&T, Android phones have PLENTY of things I don't like about them. They aren't perfect either. Sure, non-smooth scrolling is not a "flaw", its just a fact of life with Android. And ya, I like that the i4 battery is now about 2-3X the typical Android phone now. Palm? Umm, I like having alot of developers writing for the platform, so that's out.

So, even with this design issue, the i4 is simply the best for me. If it wasn't I'd sure as hell return it and find something else. That's why I switched from WinMo 2 years ago. The iPhone just fit me better. If something else comes along and gives me everything the i4 does and has better reception, I'd be apt to switch. But until then. I'll keep the i4, not because I'm a fanboy. But because I'm a smart shopper who buys products that work for ME.

The same way that most people having issue are qualifying theirs. Though I realize my math may be a bit off. Based on the amount of returns. It may be more like 5.8 of every 6

See, now that is a very reasonable post. You stated how it works for you, and you're quite happy with the results. I don't think anyone has a problem with that logic. I still have to wonder if the proximity sensor problems bother you, but I can be happy that you're happy.

The forum problems arise when the Apple lemmings tell others, who expect a premium product to act like one, that "it is what it is, so get over it". Or they tell others to "get a case and the problem will magically go away". Or demand them to either "return it or STFU". Or they actually believe Jobs, and repeat his claim that the problem is all just an optical illusion, and Apple's decision to change the software to hide the problem from you is quite alright.

Those blind responses demonstrate the true mentality of the Apple "fanboys".

i love Apple n all iDevice, but is Apple claims that they can amend this problem with an update y don't they just do it n gets people to shut up?but i think steve knows that he cant fix it with a software update
