    Not to your desktop,
if you do that it will move it.
You need to use an external drive.
    Like a USB key
you should have both the USB Key window and the Temp Folder window opened.
as soon as the PerXXX.tmp folder shows up during the DFU restore drag it from the Temp folder into the window for the USB key.
It will copy over very fast and you will have your iBSS file.

Use another drive connected to a windows machine.
Open a file on this drive to drop the Temp file created by Apple when you start the DFU restore.
Open your temp file. In the start menu search type %TEMP%
    Put phone into DFU mode.
Connect to iTunes. It will say blahblah restore first blahblah.
MAKE SURE you have your temp file and external drive file open and ready.
Click restore and as SOON AS THE FIRST PERxxx.tmp folder shows DRAG it (ie. copy) to your external file.
Open the copied folder on your external drive you dragged to, open firmware folder, open dfu folder, look for

    iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu
    iBSS.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu

Copy these two files a bazillion times onto a bazillion different types of media and smile

The drag and copy was somehow fast enough to grab the file faster then cntrl+c into a folder on the computer's hard drive LOL.

Hope this helps those of you not being able to get the iBSS on a windows machine.

If it helps please hit my thanks button
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! you spark'd an idea for me because i could'nt dig in to the folder and get to the iBSS file fast enough before it would it would vanish. I tried like 5 times and finally instead of digging through the files when they appeared again i just opened the first folder and moved the entire DFU folder to an external drive. It then crashed the restore of course since i moved the file but i just put it back in DFU and started the process over. FINALLY!!! Im so relieved. Thank you.

    Default took me forever!!
i spent about an hour trying to figure out why IBSS file wouldn't show up. I was pretty sure I was quick enough to copy that first folder too. finally figured out why! =P

make sure your phone is in DFU MODE!

Recovery mode and DFU mode is different. In recovery mode you will see the itunes icon with the plugin adapter on the screen. In DFU mode the screen will be completely black but itunes will still ask you to restore the phone.

How to get into DFU mode.
    1. Hold power and home button for EXACTLY 10 seconds(use your pc clock)
    2. At 10 seconds release the power button while still holding the home button.

itunes should then prompt you to restore your phone. if your screen is not black then you are not in DFU mode. G'luck!

ok WTF.. i cant get the IBSS file!!.. i got it one time and as soon as the folder popped up i dragged it to the desktop to copy it..

then i looked in there and the IBSS file was there by itself in the DFU folder, looked a second later and it changed to a IBEC file on its own!! WTF!

now no matter how fast i copy the folder in DFU mode, i can only get a IBEC file, not a IBSS file????

  14. #1593
Ok everyone, a USB drive (external hdd) is not necessary if you don't have one. To COPY a file to a different location on the same drive, simply RIGHT CLICK and drag. A menu will pop up with the options to move or copy. Choose copy.

edit: make sure you have two folders open, one with the %temp% folder showing, and the other window with your destination folder

    Also, here's a WIN tutorial...

Dammit, just found out that 3.1 will allow Voice Command over bluetooth, I knew they were holding that back to thwart jailbreakers. They always leave out something good on major releases, bastards.

Just done it and got both, not bad for 4.28am on my birthday.I used my usb hardrive to capture the both of them in dfu mode.
