Okay I lied, I didn't go to sleep. Last post - promise

Don't unzip it silly. Change the .zip extension to .ipsw.
I always feel sorry for the guy in the iPhone commercials. He always gets a call right in the middle of trying to do something

Angry Redsnow Crashes-How do I fix?
I have a 3G. I installed 3.0. After running redsnow and following all instructions-it crashes right after the power/home+power/home button sequence. I have tried using 0.7.0 and 8.0. I am running Vista. Is there away to Jailbreak my phone and avoid this crash?

    Yes

I plug in the phone, then power off. Then click next and follow the instructions.

No, redsnow closes down. Unexpected error in the program.

I have downloaded both redsnow and firmware from multiple sites and used both Explorer and Firefox to download each. Still same result.

Sorry the program shuts down and gives error message. Computer is fine.

which restore file are you using??

    iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
    iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

  8. #528
iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw, now. Started out trying iPhone1,2_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.ipsw, but that had its own set of problems.

  9. #529
can you verify the firmware version on your 3g phone? perhaps that does not match with the restore version your using. also keep in mind that iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw is for 3g and iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipswif for 2g.

    Does AppTappInstaller help by chance?

Where do I go under settings to check the firmware version?

apptapinstaller is a very old installer used for jailbroken phones to install apps.

i remember my redsnow crashing similar to yours before. i believe i was running the 2G firmware with redsnow with a 3G firmware phone, thus causing redsnow to crash.

There is a conflict with installing both Cydia and Icy, you will have to restore and re-jailbreak your phone and install only Cydia, sorry.

Put in DFU mode, restore in iTunes and then run the jailbreak again this time only install Cydia.
In case you need them here are directions on DFU.
    DFU mode
    INSTRUCTIONS
    Step 1. Turn off iPhone
Step 2. Hold down the power and home button.
Step 3. When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.
Step 4. Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it detects iPhone in restore/recovery mode.

    Alternative Method:
Step 1. Connect iPhone to USB then listen to the sound when it connects and disconnects.
Step 2. Hold the home and power buttons until hear the disconnect sound then release power button.
Step 3. Wait until you hear another sound then release home button.
