Guys, are we talking about AMERICA only? What will be the price in Switzerland?

I enjoy the use of T-mobile as a prover due to the customer service, thank you.

I am pretty sure that most modders that use this forum are in the same mindset that a large part of your payment to an organization includes customer service.

I can also ensure you that a great number of employees at Cingular/AT&T/SBC - aka Deathstar, will opt and do opt for a T-mobile phone even though a "discounted service cost", ERP phone is provided to them. The first call into "customer care", normally is the clincher... Not to mention the questionable billing.

    But I digress.

I agree though with Apex rr that we are all speculating as to the final outcome of this topic. My concerns have already been stated, and I think that I will go back into my normal "stealth mode", here at modmyi.

    Thanks for the rant.

yes, we are just talking about america.

i listened to the keynote speech live, and steve jobs specifically said that $299 is the maximum price you will pay for the new iPhone, WORLDWIDE.

now, to get the new iPhone on the 2 cheapest O2 contracts, you must pay these prices for them. So with this in mind, i would expect the pay as you go to be between 300 - 400.

however, steve did say that $299 will be the maximum price worldwide so we will see.

whatever happens, im so happy with O2 right now

they do not know what is going on right now.

i phoned apple customer support about an hour after the keynote, and she said the same thing, "it will be just like the first iphone".

however, rung both O2 and apple today after seeing the PAYG option appear on O2 website and both said that they know as much as we do right now.

they will get briefed nearer the time, and we will find out straight after.

as it stands right now, america is the only country i can find where the phone must be activated IN STORE. this means AT&T + Apple are having a serious mass customer raping session, with every american iphone 3g wannabe owner invited.

and i read somewhere that T-mobile are upgrading their 3G to work on the same frequency as the iPhone.

so, the NON AT&T iPhone contract owners among you, better make some friends abroad pretty soon to ship you the new 3G and we all better hope that the final 2.0 firmware and the new 3g iPhone can be fake activated/jailbreak/unlocked.

my advice right now is not to get to hype over this, and not plan to get the phone on launch day. if you times the monthly contract by 24 and + the cost of the iPhone, that is the price you are paying. this is clearly not worth it, which is why the iphone 1st gen was unlocked in the first place.

give it a week or 2 to see how things pan out, im sure the new iphones will be available on ebay etc. for everyone to buy, just as before.

until nearer the time and we hear something from our relevant service providers or apple themselves, just ignore the rumours. and that's all a majority of this thread is.

    EDIT:

if anyone has got any concrete evidence for the cancellation charge by AT&T would be good....

whoa, cant believe us europeans have an advantage over the americans for once, when it comes to things like that..we wait half a year longer for video consoles to be release, we pay mostly twice as much money for our gadgets, get pushed back further then the americans but now o2, will offer a payg and the americans will be forced into a contract...sweet...

So will we in UK be forced aswell as the iPhones has various prices and i can't see O2 giving us a free iPhone if we say we will sign up to the highest priced tariff. Think O2 will make you sign up instore. Besides if we want a 3g iPhone for free we can just restore and sign up to the old iPhone contract in iTunes. And then upgrade to 3g iPhone by signing a 18 month contract as O2 will cancel your old iPhone contract(in this case which you would have signed up jus recently so u wnt really lose any money plus you'll have two iphones.

    PLEASE READ :

    iPhone - O2

click tariffs and please note the FREE 3g iphone on contracts + the PAY AS YOU GO OPTION (coming soon)

NOW PLEASE READ MY POST BEFORE.

also, the requirements at the apple store US for the iphone are a 2 year agreement with AT&T specifically. With every other apple store worldwide it is simply a Wireless service provider.

it seems AT&T and Apple are pigeon holing the whole US market with this strategy and there is not allot the buyer can do.

I know things may change before launch, but i seriously feel for all the Americans among us right now. . . .

i dont get why people get so mad about the 2 yr contract?

all those who want to buy an iphone on ebay, why would you even bother if you can just go to an apple/att store and get it? $200 is not that much (compared to $600 initial price of the original iphone) and $10 that you can potentially save by buying on ebay wont make a big difference.

besides, if you live in the US you dont have too much of an alternative with the carrier. so what, you unlock your precious new iphone and use t-mobile instead of att? or take a sim card out of one of those prepaid phones that you get at a gas station and use it?

yes, iphone contracts (voice + data) are kind of expensive, but you should be ready to spend some money if you plan on buying THE BEST phone thats out there... its like buying a corvette and expecting to get 35 mpg on it and then crying about how expensive gas is. want to save on gas? buy a honda civic. want to have a fast car? get ready to pay for gas. thats how things work in life.

and im pretty sure that we will still be able to jailbreak the 3g iphones, so all the free custom apps will still be there for you

but imagine buying the corvette and being able to get 35 mpg.

that is why people buy the iphones and unlock them, so they can enjoy cheaper rates that still offer them everything they need.

at the moment i pay 10 less than the 35 iPhone contract in the UK and i get exactly the same.

if you think the AT&T iPhone deals will be the best value for money over the next 2 years, then please go ahead and be forced into your contract.

if you do the math, i think you will see that buying the iPhone from ebay for a more expensive initial fee and a cheaper service plan may save you lots of $$$ in the long run.

I couldnt have said it better myself...bunch of damn cry babys.

to those of you CRYING about having to "renew" your contract, can you honestly say you where going to cancel after the 2 years anyway....dont even try to lie....if you're with AT&T you will stay with AT&T, there is no reason to change. I have not met anyone who currently has AT&T and didnt like the service...you can go to verizon or sprint or t-mobile if you would like to save that whopping $5 and only have signal in the METRO areas if you want. And for those of you swearing up and down that you are sticking with your original because of jailbreaking reasons, go ahead that only will make it easy for me to go buy it on the 11th without standing inline with you all fools. IF you spent 200,300,400,500 on a phone should you really care about your monthly bill.....if you're a tightass go get a cheap buy 1 get 18 free motorola and get the cheapest plan and stop TRYING to act important with a damn iphone....YOU"RE NOT COOL for having one...kbye

    ****EDIT*****

If I upset anyone...YOU'RE the baby I'm talking about.

to the MODS....im sorry if this is not an approved response but SOMEONE had to tell them...I come on here for all the latest news about the iPhone and always have to read past these retards...gets old is all im saying thanks for not banning me in advance

Verizon though will NEVER get the iPhone. Only a few carriers use CDMA. GSM is much more spread and apple wouldnt waste the time to make a CDMA variant

    Default Petition
    Hey guys,

I just started an online petition to Apple and AT&T, asking them to reconsider their new purchasing policies for the iPhone 3G. Lets make our voices heard, just so they know that we do not agree with the policies.

To Apple, Inc. and AT&T, Inc. in response to the introduction of the iPhone 3G Petition

    Thanks,
    Alfonso Olvera

Does this in-store activation policy only apply to AT&T retail stores? Or can you still buy one and go at an Apple Store?

This is the biggest waste of time.

It is called free enterprise, get over it!

    StealthBravo,

It's also called free speech. As the owner of a company, I like to hear what my customers have to say. There is no business without customers, and apple might be losing them with the new policies.
