Thread: Running my application on the iPhone

Default Running my application on the iPhone
I have been learning iPhone development and have made a basic test program which runs in the simulator but I would like to test it on the iPhone. I have just jailbreaked the 1.1.4 firmware and installed Installer.app but I cannot figure out how to run my built app on the iPhone. Am I missing something really obvious?

Really? I was hoping it would be easier than that! How do the applications available for download via Installer.app run?

they use an "unofficial" sdk called the open toolchain

Oh right, OK, is this something I can download and use with Xcode?

Excuse my ignorance if not, I am a Windows developer and have only been developing on Macs (specifically iPhone) for about a week.

There are multiple ways to install the open toolchain on a windows machine, or mac. Search around the forum for some guides or use google. With the toolchain you can develop apps that can be downloaded through installer app. The only disadvantage of the unofficial toolchain is that apps can be buggy, the lack of a template builder and iphone simulator. Due to these downfalls, it may be easier for you to develop with the official sdk.

You can pretty easily find the 2.0 firmware these days.

I think the toolchain is fine.

The lack of a simulator can be a problem, but since Apple made the same mistake as Microsoft and created a simulator that actually uses OS/X Desktop APIs instead of truly running ARM code, it has similar issues in not responding correctly to all messages and not simulating all features, so testing on the phone works better for many apps.

The lack of a template builder will be an issue once the XCode one really works.

As for apps being buggy, I don't see the SDK helping in that regard. Apps are buggy or not buggy independent of the toolchain.
