    Default Get back your ADDITIONAL LOCATIONS using new Yahoo method..
    For those of you interested in getting back your ADDITIONAL LOCATIONS showing the proper city/Neighborhood - we have data still in the widgetweather.xml that can help us achieve that. The fields 'latitude' and 'longitude' are still being printed in the xml for us. But they're only rounded to '2' decimal places - which isn't enough to get you a perfect street address - but it's TOTALLY enough to get correct city and neighborhood for those extra locations of yours. I've written this code so that your MAIN location with still have a perfectly accurate street address. Only your additional location street addresses won't be perfect. But I doubt that matters as much.

    THIS TUTORIAL ASSUMES YOU (or via a Marty or Ian mod) HAVE ALREADY UPDATED YOUR WIDGET TO USE THE NEW YAHOO CODE

    In main.js dealWithWeather function -- Replace this:
    Code:
    obj.coords = latitude + "," + longitude;
    with this:
    Code:
    if (xmlnumber == "") { obj.coords = latitude + "," + longitude; }
    else { obj.coords = obj.extraLocName2; }
    ....

    Then later in the main.js in the updateWeather function - few short sections down -- immediately under this line:
    Code:
    $(data).find('currentcondition').each( function() {
    Add these three lines:
    Code:
    obj.lati = $(this).find('latitude').text()*1;
    obj.longi = $(this).find('longitude').text()*1;
    obj.extraLocName2 = obj.lati + '00' + ',' + obj.longi + '00';
    ..

    Leave everything from obj.city = ............. and after untouched.

    You will have your additional locations from WidgetWeather2 back.

    Enjoy!

    Thanks!
    But in my area 2 digits after the decimal point is not good enough for neighbourhood (I tested it). It's why I re-did my original fix to use the myLocation.txt file rather than the xml file coordinates. I guess it depends on how close you are to the next neighbourhood, I'm within 1km.
    But you would get "city" no problem though.

    The first decimal place = 11.1 km
    The second decimal place = 1.1 km
    The third decimal place = 110 m
    The fourth decimal place = 11 m
    The fifth decimal place = 1.1 m
    The sixth decimal place = 0.11 m

    And just for fun:
    The 14th decimal place = 1.0 nanometer: Your fingernail grows about this far in one second!
    1 million nanometers = 1 millimetre.

    Would be great if KOH can make the xml file show 6 decimal places so we can use them if needed.
    For accurate address I recon you would need at least 5 decimal places (better 6).

    Yes.. Excellent point, Ian.. Not enough decimals for pinpoint on neighborhood either.. But certainly plenty for city/county..

    This was just a simple fix for those wanting their Additional Locations back - at least showing correct city and area weather. That's why I put the disclaimer about street address not bring pinpoint for the additional locations..

    I don't think we can get greater than 2 positions in the latitude and longitude fields of the XML because iOS' Weather.app (into which WW2 hooks for data) only contains 2 decimal places.. likely cause it's good enough for weather data only.

    WW2 got its 6 decimal place coordinates (extraLocName) from the YahooPlaceFinder API call which is now discontinued. With Marty's finding of this new yahoo API feed… It should be fairly simple for SDDev to correct widgetweather for us and we'll get our 6 decimal places back-as I can see them in the new Yahoo feed now for a given location when I go to it in a browser.

    Here's hoping WW2 can be updated soon. I sent all new Yahoo feed data to King 48 hours ago.

    If WW2 can get 6 digits & write them to the myLocation.txt file, then surely it write them to the xml file too.

    Why do you say "WW2 got its 6 decimal place coordinates, it's still getting them & writing them to the text file!

    I'm confused. Maybe better KOH tells us what is what.

    Yep. Spot on again, M8. If they're in the myLoc.txt - they can be put in the xml. What I was saying is that the data that 'went' (before Yahoo went down) into extraLocName was from the Yahoo feed. What appears in 'latitude and longitude' at only 2 decimal places is from the weather.com feed iOS uses for Weather.app (doesn't need to be as accurate). But DUH! You're absolutely right - if myLocation.txt has them.. it's getting them likely directly from CoreLocation. So it should be easy for them to be put in extraLocName regardless of what API WW2 will use going forward for extra location data.

    Didn't think about that angle 'til you just mentioned it.

    King? This possible.. Right?

    Possibly may only have to edit the map.xml. Although more likely it would be something sd would have to change to allow the extra decimals in the xml file too.

    This is not true, Grant!
    The weather app gets it GPS coordinates from the Core Location, which has upto 14 decimals.
    That is the way iOS works. The weather app, when activated, requests the GPS coordinates from the Core Location which is the software that communicates with the GPS chip, in order to fetch the weather data for that GPS position.

    Honestly, this would be ludicrous, first you use the GPS coordinates from the Core Location (upto 14 decimals) which the weather app/weather framework got to send to Yahoo Finder so that you can get GPS coordinates with 6 decimals.
    I have seen and heard a lot of dumb things, but this would top it!
    I rather think that the 2 decimals you have in the widgetweather.xml file is more for the display on screen purpose.

    EDIT
    Until we see the source code of WW2 it is all speculation what WW2 is actually doing.
    This again is my dislike of WW2, it is closed code and you rely on one person to do changes for you.
    Don't get me wrong, I am grateful that we got something like WW2.

    Ah, someone agree's with me.
    It's more or less what I was arguing with Grant about previously, the coordinates come from the phone (coreLocation), it's the WOEID part of the API thats broken, i.e the API can no longer get your location info from the coordinates.
    The short coordinates in the xml file I'm sure has been cut short by the WW2 dev.
    At least this is what I think but like you say it's all speculation.
    Grant, have you actually seen the WW2 code? Or are you just guessing?
