    If ifile has never crashed on you NewD with IOS 8, then you have a miracle phone.

    I donít believe you though.

    In iOS 8 we've certainly all had random crashing of lots of different applications. Agreed? Tapatalk is a particularly frustrating one of these days for me (probably not Tapatalk itself though). But application crashing I'm pretty sure is a random RAM depletion problem in iOS 8. No? It's also very possible I don't use iFile as much as the rest of you - so that's why it hasn't happened for me yet (honest - no lie). And I certainly have had crashing apps on my phone in iOS 8. But I don't believe this is a buggy aspect of iFile itself as, I believe, was being implied by King.

    But I will bac-kpedal on the term "rock solid" about any application in iOS 8. That's too strong a term. King was right to challenge me on that. We still have too many RAM and CPU depletion issues in the iOS still.

    I will modify my statement to say that --iFile is at least as stable as any other jb or App Store app in iOS 8 on my phone--. That's an accurate statement for my experience (and at least Ferlop's too). Nothing "disproportionately crashey" about iFile for me- nothing like it was in iOS 7. The Crashiest app for me in iOS 8 is Tapatalk -- but I'm guessing that's only because it's the app I'm in the most and with all the animation I'm running the case it probably that I'm depleting my RAM available for apps.

    @ V,
    Sorry V, there is no "testMode" or "demoMode" anymore, no need for it.
    The above answer from NewD is completely wrong too.
    Here is how my new system works:

    In the "touch.js" file (yes I know I should move this into the main.js ) you see this line:
    Code:
    var iOS = navigator.userAgent.match(/(iPad|iPhone|iPod)/g) ? true : false;

    The above is basically looking to see if the user is using an iPhone, iPad or iPod, if yes then iOS comes back as "true", if not (maybe user is using PC or Mac) it comes back as "false".
    Then in the "main.js" file I use the returned boolean value of iOS (true or false) to determine the path to the widgetweather.xml file with this line:
    Code:
    if (iOS == false) { var url = "test_files/widgetweather" + xmlnumber + ".xml"; } else { var url = "file:///private/var/mobile/Documents/widgetweather" + xmlnumber + ".xml"; }

    On a side note, I also use the returned boolean value of iOS to determine what kind of "touchmode" to use with this code:
    Code:
    if (iOS == true) { var touchmode = "touchend"; } else { var touchmode = "click"; }

    So, for this to work correctly, you MUST have the folder "test_files" in the main themes folder and at least a working "widgetweather.xml" file inside it. If you use locale then you also should have a "myLocation.txt" file present here (all versions in post 1 have these files).

    Now, when you edit on the PC or Mac it will automatically use the .xml or .txt file inside the "test_files" folder (& also use touchmode "click").
    When testing on the iDevice without internet all you need it these files present in "private/var/mobile/Documents" folder (your cityname will appear in red because the data will naturally be out of date as these files never get updated).

    On the iDevice, without internet (so it doesn't automatically update) you can then manipulate the .xml file to different weather conditions you want to try, just identify the correct "<code>30</code>" & change the number (30 in my case) to whatever condition you want, you can see the list of conditions with the corresponding code near the top in the main.js file (under the title "// WEATHER CONDITIONS").

    So there is no need for a demoMode/testMode anymore.

    Hope this is clear.

    PS, testing like this will not work if your main.js is set-up for use with Groovy+(plus) stuff.

    I just forgot about the need to place the .xml or .txt files in the "test_files" folder. But I got the new auto-detect iOS/computer functionality part right.

    A brilliant concept by the way! And I use it all the time. And I also love the ability to set "editMode" too on PC for larger viewing. Great stuff, Ian!

    NewD,
    V's question was how to get testMode on the device.
    For that you do not need any file in themes folder or test_folder.
    So I still recon you were totally wrong right?

    Hmm.. Not following you, bro. Let's throw away the "totally wrong" vs. "teensie bit right" thing. I'm happy to have been totally wrong if I can learn it "right"... You know I hate passing on incorrect info.. .. But I use this feature all day.. So before you implemented this - we needed to set true to a test mode variable and a touchend variable. Now getting into a mode, on/off your phone (a "testing mode"), is all done via your clever coding using navigator agent to auto-detect. Is that wrong, Ian? Honest question. Not trying to be "Grant right".. Promise.. Just want to make sure I understand what you did so I can convey accurate info. Thx.

    Not 100%.

    I tried to explain everything plain as I could in last big post, there is no test mode when using the theme on the iDevice, if you have no internet for e.g., it just reads the un-updated files from your documents folder.

    When not using iDevice, and only when NOT using an iDevice, it reads the files from the test_files folder so you have something for live preview on Mac or PC.

    The only way to check different weather conditions on or off the iDevice is to either manipulate the .xml file or manipulate the current weather condition in the main.js file or animations.js file. i.e if your current condition was cloudy and you wanted to test lightening, you could add createLight(1,1); in the cloudy condition in animations.js.

    Ok Ian I do have test files. And I have resprang with airplane mode. It still acts as normal. On my pc the css breaks and says no xml file.

    Also looking at the xml file. It's huge. And I can't seem to figure out where to make it snow.

    But that part doesn't come into play until I can get it to work.

    Are you sure the // is back in front of groovyAPI.do and not in front of jQuery.get? If the main.js is set up for GL+/GB+ I think Ian said the testing won't work.

    Good. Was pretty sure that would work. Something got changed in V4 and V4.5 that prevents it from working in G+ versions.. Weird.
