Thread: UniAW7

I should really get around to making a half screen version of 7.1 for you guys as all the half screen mods still have all the code for full screen animations when it's not needed, basically it's a waist of resources, especially so in the vertical animations like rain & snow. Unfortunately I'm out 7 days per week running our motorbike shop as my wife is in southern Philippines for a couple of months, but will get around to it one of these days.

I'm sure iWidgets will not get updated to use WKWebView due to the issues it has reading local files, using url requests & javascript timers stopping, not to mention the white screens I read about here. WKWebView performance gains certainly comes with it's own unique issues.

I keep hearing this "high animation" description for UniAW, it's not strictly accurate, It certainly can be if you want it that way, but I would say most days the weather is just sun (or moon) with clouds, surely these are the necessities for an animated weather widget, all other things can be switched off by the user (balloons, birds, wind etc), only the basic animations are fixed, it's really down to all you guys to play with it till you find what's stable on i6 (I think 6+ cannot run UniAW without Groovy+). Remember the amount of animated elements (clouds, drops, lightenings etc) can all be adjusted in each condition in the animations.js file.

    Default UniAW7
Good points, all, sir.. I personally find the level of respringing intolerable on my 6 even though it's less than a 6+ experiences.. And though seemingly illogical, I get no difference in respringing with full thunderstorm on or a simple sunny day.. I also get no difference with SuperLite Mode switched on.. There's some other variable here. UniAW6.5 gives me zero respringing.. So 7/7.1 don't just simply have more animations - do they? Sunny day on 6.4 no resprings.. Sunny day on 7.1 - same cloud and balloon level.. Respring purgatory.. And no difference in Respring level between7 to 7.1 - for me.. Confused....

And, yes, Ian, it would be absolutely amazing for you to create a 1/4 to 1/3 screen height (landscape rectangle) version of UniAW7.1 that modders could use in their top and bottom SB widgets where the balloons/clouds would not be dragging on the ground… ;-) It would be great to have that cod as a basis for mods or to import. I'm assuming it would only be the animations.CSS and animations.JS files that would need to be replaced once you finish your work. But maybe you'll end up resizing some images… I don't know. but that would be great, bro! At your leisure, of course. And thanks for all you do for us!

Mmm.. The animations in 7.1 are very similar to 6.4, so sounds like there is something else in 7/7.1 that wasn't in 6.4 that may be causing issues. Difficult to pinpoint without having i6 to test on myself as user statements report different findings (others have said 7.1 was stable for them on i6).

And yes, to do a 1/3 height version correctly it would be mainly the animations css & js files that would get all the work plus most images re-sized, I would also do it without timed walls & all weather images with transparent sky, the sky would be simply 2 images (day & night) behind the weatherwalls, clouds etc z-index's would be in-between sky & weatherwalls this way avoiding clouds etc floating over the land or any building/tree tops, similar to what I did with CORE widget but on a larger scale with all weather images.

But would really like to get to the bottom of this 6.4 vs 7 issue first. It's very frustrating spending countless hours making 7.1 as lean as I could only to hear it's the same as 7.

I completely believe you, bro.. I personally haven't read any 6 users talking about 'no resprings' - maybe, more like me, they consider a 'couple a day' as tolerable. Let me be more specific -- When we first got iOS8's jailbreak.. and I used UniAW7 in GL or Covergence- I remember driving Simon crazy because I had SO few resprings on my 6 compared to his. He said we was getting a bunch a day and I was getting nearly zero even with U7 running on both LS and SB. But over time it increased to 3-4 day.. and that was 'my personal' intolerability point. Soon after Jake built gAPI+/GL+/SB+ and all respringing went away. So even in those early days I was doing pretty good.. but Simon, on his 6 was not.. You were doing great on your 5 but Marty was having respring city even worse than me on his 5S..

SO I think we'd also have to conclude that the tweaks that all of us were adding AND the way we each were using our phones were both contributing to our 'unique' experiences with the auto-respringing. For example. Simon uses a LOT of open TABs in mobile safari - I use none. THOUGH - when I opened about 40 TABS - I still didn't get any MORE respringing. So who knows what made Simon's, mine, yours and Marty's phone so different in our experience. It CAN'T be ONLY UniAW7/7.1... THOUGH -- all of us, if memory serves, would get NO resprings or nearly zero with UniAW6.5. Even 6+ users got to 'bearable' with U6.4/6.5. SO... U7 IS in this equation..

Oh.. pretty please..!! YES!.. As soon as you can.. I LOVE Sital and Boots and Hell7 and Cocco's SB 1/3 size top and bottom landscape widgets.. And they pretty much have the sun/moon and even balloon size accounted for and scaled down properly.. and of course sun/moon travel accross the sky just fine. BUT - clouds and balloons PATHS and sunray are dragging on the ground in pretty much ALL of them. So it's the path heights that need the biggest adjustment to look 'Ian-perfect' in those 1/3-size landscape mods. Only you can really accomplish that for us, bro.. But I understand your priority (below).

But would really like to get to the bottom of this 6.4 vs 7 issue first. It's very frustrating spending countless hours making 7.1 as lean as I could only to hear it's the same as 7.
In fairness to you and so as to not send you on any wild goose chasing.. I'm gonna spend the weekend doing some fresh comparisons between 7 and 7.1 with my current load of tweaks and running in Convergence only.. Though I wasn't inflating my experiences doing testing comparisons - I wasn't my usual 'meticulous' self and it was a while ago.. Let me see what I can find for you, bro.. I do remember reporting to you differences whether you were using vx/vw and the other method. It's a little fuzzy.. Okay.. enough chat.. off to testing..

    You da man!

You'll also have to increase the height of the weather pictures so they fit in the overlay. This is #Layer in Style.css.
Thanks Sital, finally got around to tweaking the CSS to fit the 6+ screen with the bigger window you provided!

I was one of those few who thought that if you were running GroovyB+ you also had to use GroovyL+.....man, I've been missing out...I'm now using the Convergance LS Platform and using an older UniAW (6.0 I believe) without resprings so far....Feels great to run UniAW on LS without having to worry about wrong time...(I use my phone to quickly gaze at the time frequently!!)

I think the first UniAW7.0 is running better too, only time will tell, tho...

an older SB mod on my Lockscreen, just to test,
