Thread: Epic Cydget (Full GPS with no extra tweaks needed)

Default Epic Cydget (Full GPS with no extra tweaks needed)

The Epic Cydget is a weather lockscreen unlike a majority out there now. It may just be one of a kind. This Cydget does not call to a website to pull weather information, it doesn't require any setup, and doesn't require you to download any other tweaks to get full accurate GPS. It uses the Weather.framework included in every phone. It will update your location and weather manually, or you can update it at anytime you want.

Want to update all your other widgets that use myLocation.txt? This lockscreen will help you do that. It will create or update the myLocation.txt whenever it updates. All weather will be exactly as it is in the Weather.app, Notification Center, and any other iOS8 weather tweaks you have.

It provides Time, Temperature, Condition, High, Low, 14hr weather forecast (Weather Icon, Temp and Rain percents), and a 7day forecast(Weather Icon, Day, High, and Low). As well as options for Celsius and 24hr that can be enabled or disabled directly from the lockscreen.

I began trying to do this many many months ago, back when the weather services was Yahoo. Now that it is weather.com it's even better. I tried and tried but never could get it, until just a few days ago. I finally figured it out, and can't wait to get this out. IMO this is the best way to have weather on your lockscreen.

I do not like people copying code, but if you are a coder, modder, etc. I hope you take a look at this and are able to use it. (It's heavily commented) I will not go around blaming anyone from stealing code, just don't copy/paste the whole thing, and to be credited would be nice. I would love to see more lockscreens made in this fashion (by using what iOS already provides) I will also do a tutorial on Cydgets.blogspot.com when I get a chance. This will be a paid Cydget. I think I put in enough work to request a cup of coffee. Works on 5, 5s, 6, and 6Plus devices. Loads instantly, and is very very lightweight.

You have heard the pros now for the cons.

    1. Users cannot adjust refresh interval without editing code.
    2. This is new. You (may) be some issues. (highly unlikely but could happen)

I will be adding multiple languages, I just haven't figured out a clever way for the user to select these languages from the lockscreen. Weather wallpaper is another thing I thought about adding, but don't have a complete set of wallpapers. Refresh interval can be adjusted by editing the RI variable in the html. The only way I could really add this option to the lock screen itself is to have a popup where you enter the value. I haven't decided if I am going to do this or not. (I really don't want a popup as it kills the aesthetics). As for it being new we have tested it on 5s, 6, and 6+ with 0 issues. From experience I know other users can have issues, if you do please let me know asap.

    Very nice...

This would be one of a few good reasons to make me upgrade to iOS8....Having an iP5 with no respring issues has its advantages in iOS7 (a few maybe, but nevertheless)...but you're pushing it ...

    Again...very nice ...

Having had a chance to be part of the test run of the code last night to the completed Cydget today, I have to say that this is going to be an "epic" Cydget. Not to mention how this code is going to change the way that we will create and pull weather for future widgets. No additional tweaks, no clunky code, no fuss. You just install, open, and enjoy.

    Congrats June!

You managed to access weather info just like WW2 but through Cydgets and Cycript. I can't wait to try it.

    Very nice work bro! Kudos.

    Congratz June.
I certainly would be more interested in how it works and if there is a possibility to hook into a different weather app then the stock one (is possible, just have to figure that one out). Don't like weather.com, is crap here in the UK. But like Living Earth App very much and would like to use that instead, uses WeatherUnderground which is so far the best weather service for me.
Nothing is impossible only miracles take a bit longer!

There is "extra" info which can be found by tapping the last updated text. Sunrise and Sunset is there
