Default Apple’s iPad Faces Its Steepest Decline in Sales

KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo has recently reported that Apple’s iPad will be seeing even more of a decline in sales this year. Not long ago, we noted that the iPad department experienced its first year-over-year decline in sales last quarter. Kuo also predicted that even though Apple will be releasing their 12.9-inch iPad Pro model, things are not expected to turn up anytime soon.

In the new report, Kuo stated that he feels shipments of the iPad will struggle to hit more than 45 million this year. If this is truly the case, then it means that Apple will experience a 30% decline year-over-year compared to last year. This is the steepest decline in the history of Apple’s iPad.

It has also been noted that Kuo thinks shipments in Q1 and Q2 of 2015 will drop over 50%, which means that Apple will experience a rough start to the new year. He expects shipments of only 10.1 million devices in Q1 of this year (which marks a 52.7% decline) and then just 7-8 million units in Q2 (which marks another 30-40% decline).

Kuo has been pretty accurate with his predictions in the past. If anything, more accurate than any other reported past predictions.

Makes sense to me now that they are offering the 6+ iPhone. I rarely use my iPad since getting one.

What they really need is a low cost iPad, with more than 16 gig. It was 300 bucks for a 16 gig iPad Mini. It's just not enough space. If they had a 32 gig one for that price, sales might go up.

That's a great point! I forgot they did such a stupid thing. 16GB is usually not enough and 64 costs too much. 32GB was the 'sweet spot' that everyone loved and they did away with it for reasons my brain can't fathom.

They deserve to lose sales for that.

Not too surprised. Apple supports their hardware very well, and people just aren't going to upgrade their iPads every 2 years like a subsidized phone. My wife and I are still rocking our first ten retina display iPads. They still get updates and work great, so why buy new??

This is marketing 101 . You get early adopters and the graph starts to shoot up in growth now it's in maturity, and as the ipad is a great product unlike laptops where the processing /memory power just meets the operating system, when a new operating system comes out and you need another faster more memory intensive laptop - and so the circle goes on. Whereas the iPad 2 is still going . Tell me Mr Obious Kuo, how many folks are still using a laptop over 4 years old ?

I use an 2011 MacBook Air as my portable, I have an iPad Mini Retina, but I also have two pre-order original iPads that still work well. I am not sure I agree that you need to get a new laptop every time a new OS drops. I get about 4 years out of my laptops (08' MacBook Pro before the Air).

I'd buy a new one if they weren't like 800 bucks.

Looks like the masses have figured out that there was/is not need to update an iPad after the iPad 2. I still have and use mine from time to time. Buying an iPad every year is a bit much considering. I mean its bad enough we update our phones every year haha.

I had to update my original iPad as it was so slow it was unusable and crashed all the time with the most recent FW for that model. (iOS 5?) but I agree more recent iterations would cope far better with newer FW versions.
