Default Microsoft Announces Partnership with Dropbox, Integrates Functionality with Mobile Apps

Both Microsoft and Dropbox recently announced a partnership which will bring Dropbox support to Microsoft’s Office suite mobile apps. Microsoft is currently set to add the Dropbox feature in upcoming iterations of Word, Excel and PowerPoint for both the iPhone and the iPad. The new integration feature will allow Office users to open, edit and share files that are shared in Dropbox. Users just have to add a Dropbox account to an Office app at which point they will be able to browse their Dropbox contents which will appear alongside OneDrive and locally stored files. All of the mobile edits are set to sync to Dropbox automatically with a sharing option available within the app.

The following was said regarding the matter:

Over the coming weeks, we’re updating Office apps so that they work with Dropbox, too. With the next updates to Word, Excel and PowerPoint on iPhone, iPad and Android Phone you’ll be able to connect to your Dropbox account, so you can access, edit and share your Dropbox files right from your Office apps. Once you’ve added your Dropbox account to Word, Excel or PowerPoint, you can navigate folders and files on Dropbox for viewing and editing in the native Office apps. And accessing Word, PowerPoint and Excel from your Dropbox app is just as easy. Navigate to the file you want, and the Dropbox app will open the Office app you need.
The effort as a whole is rumored to be one of the beginning stages of the whole process. Going forward Microsoft is set to expand Dropbox integration to other product offerings. The mobile apps are set to be updated with the feature in the coming weeks. As far as the online web apps go, Microsoft plans to add Dropbox support for them early next year.

This is a huge step forward for many who rely on the Microsoft Office suite, especially when it comes to work or school related activities.

Yeah, DropBox doesn't want to sell...smart of them. They can use the alliance in their favor. Possibly boosting use, sales and interest. Then sell later when they are worth more.
