Although Apple is yet to formally distribute media invites to its next press event -- believed to be happening as early as October 16th -- rumors have only intensified Monday with regard to what Apple is purportedly planning to unveil at said event.

If the latest scuttlebutt is accurate, Apple's long-awaited gold iPad Air 2 will be unwrapped at the event in question. If unveiled October 16th, we've heard that the product may actually reach consumers as quickly as October 24th.

"Last week, rumors suggested Apple was putting the finishing touches to a new version of it's iPad Air - including a gold version," British media reported earlier today. "The small event is likely to be in stark contrast to the star-studded launch of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which saw U2 playing before the firm controversially gave away the band's new album."

As recently as Friday, Re/Code's John Paczkowski was standing by his sources which assert that Apple's October 16th media event is definitely on Apple's calendar and we'll be hearing more about it soon.

If the chatter is correct, media invites could go out later today or sometime tomorrow.
