    Default data to audio mod??
with the stock charging/sync cable, is it possible to to send audio through the data wires to a small amp,.. say for some computer speakers? A friend of mine has a car stereo that uses only the stock cord, and he can change songs w/stereo controls as he listens to his 3g

You need an iPod-compatible head unit for that, they come cheap these days
It doesn't connect directly to the speakers so it won't work with computer speakers/amp, you need some kind of iPod-compatible stereo device

well, my actual intentions were a diy dock project to fit my personal needs, I have the 30 pin pinouts and a few schematics.I have just ordered a few male 30 pin connectors, and thought it might be better to wire my dock in the same manner as his head unit, if possible

    Default further probs
my diy dock is now working, had to use audio pins 3 & 4 and 1 for gnd. but now, springboard, and physical buttons have very delayed reaction! also connected pins 11, 15 & 21 w/68k resistor. I don't get a compatibility message, but the reaction time is bothering me. also, seems like my phone is @ risk of further probs. any help.....?
