Thread: Noob seeking simple guidance - How to find latest signed firmwares??

    iPhone 2G: 3.1.3
So, for example, it appears there's not much to be gained in updating the 4S from 6.1.3 to 7.1.2, since the phone basically "requests" at least 8.0 to 9.0 in order to update to the latest versions of useful apps.

Is there some way to be alerted if a higher version of IOS can be jailbroken in the near future? Meaning, for example, if it becomes possible to jailbreak/unlock IOS 9.0 to 10.0 for the 4S, so that update can be performed and then jailbreak/unlock again?

    Thank you again!

It seems on the 3GS you have the option to leave it where it's at, upgrade to 6.1.6 (P0sixPwn), or downgrade to 4.1 (Limera1n).

I can't seem to find a full up-to-date list of jailbreaks except the table at the bottom if the "History of tools" section on the jailbreak Wikipedia article. So my best recommendation would be either that or just follow jailbreak news in general. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_...story_of_tools

Three devices all previously jailbroken/unlocked (but currently unable to update without losing jailbreaks, Cydia apps, etc.):

    a. iPhone 3GS running IOS 5.1.1 (also needs new battery bad, might trade in)
    b. iPhone 4S running IOS 6.1.3 (great battery life and cleanest, high GB capacity)
    c. iPhone 6 running IOS 9.3 (cracked screen, might trade in 3GS to fix that)

Please let me know if you need more info.
a: Personally I would try and trade this one in. You could upgrade it to 6.1.6 and use posixpwn as Zok suggested. Things can get tricky with a 3GS though as you have the new/old bootrom which can determine certain things. A lot more options with old bootrom. And then you have the whole baseband situation regarding unlocking. Big headache waiting to happen but not impossible.

B: 4S you’d be best off to stay where it is. You would be forced to 9.3.5 if you try and restore meaning no jailbreak. Unlock wide you would have to go official unlock route which will cost money (depending on carrier it is locked to) but be officially unlocked. So it would just be a question of do you want latest app compatibility with 9.3.5 or stay put on 6.1.3.

C: similar situation with i6. You can stay on 9.3 and jailbreak or update to 10.3.2 and wait there for the next jailbreak, which may or may not come. As far as unlock for this same as 4s. Would need to do an official unlock, no software unlock exists. So again would depend on what carrier it is locked to.

Okay, thanks for the info guys! I'll try to keep up with that Wiki page. Prob trade in the 3GS and see if that'll cover new screen for the 6. Prob keep 4S where it is for now. I'd like to have jailbreak/unlock on at least one of the last two, but WITH latest app compatibility. Perhaps another solution would be trade in the 3GS and 6 and see if there's enough there for a newer phone altogether (or maybe small ipad). Thanks for the specific and meaningful answers!

The only thing that was "rough" was struggling past all the MEANingless comments before I could receive answers that are specific, meaningful, and REAL from Zokunei and Simon. I give as I get, and all that "attitude" is completely non-productive, frivolous, and callous disregard for people who come on here to find useful information.

I guess so. But I agree that a quick google search would have gotten you answers a lot quicker and with less frustration. There's plenty of good info out there.

Lol, no it wouldn't at all. Search engines merely show endless lists of pages/documents which contain the relevant keyphrases but do not provide holistic answers. It's the difference between "information" and "knowledge". You can search for "banana" and see many answers. You can search for "banana pudding recipe" and see many answers. But what you cannot do is ask Google to TELL you on its own how to make banana pudding and receive a meaningful, thoughtful, sensible, relevant answer.

Likewise, search for "iPhone firmware download" etc. and you can see many answers, but Google will never be able to provide a meaningful answer to the question, "Which firmware can i use to update my iphone x.0 AND is still being signed by Apple AND is possible to jailbreak/unlock that firmware?" Search engines only redirect you to sources of information, but search engines are not actually Providing information themselves. Understand the difference? There's no "AI" at work yet.

Human beings organize information much differently than computers, and unlike computers, humans can link and organize information in infinite ways that make sense if you're a human but would totally confound even the most powerful super-computers out there. You can teach Deep Blue to play chess because all the moves are linear and based on logical progression, but ask Deep Blue to imagine a person who's imagining a person playing chess or compare the artistic design of the chess pieces to that of Etruscan or Roman architecture in some meaningful way. Never happen.

Ultimately, if your standard response to every person who asks you a question is, "Go Google it" then, quite frankly, you serve no purpose here (or anywhere) whatsoever and this website should be nothing but a mirror site for the Google homepage. Yes, "there's plenty of good info out there", but making SENSE of that information is a job for humans, not websites.

Well then, search YouTube. Then you can watch people explaining their "knowledge" for you.

And don't tell me I have no purpose here again. You have no idea what I've done for this place. Maybe google that and you'll learn some crap.
