Thread: SSH for mac

  1. #1
    Default SSH for mac
I switched out my old PC desktop where I was using WinSCP to SSH to iDevices. Now I have an old mac in its place (OS 10.5.6), is there anything free that will work like WinSCP did?

If you're just looking for SSH, you can open the Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal) and run "ssh root@[iPhone's IP address, check in Wi-Fi menu on the device]" and you should have a root shell on the device.

If you're looking for a SFTP program, I'd recommend Cyberduck for OS X, free but requires Snow Leopard or Transmit for OS X, $34 USD and also requires Snow Leopard.

Thanks, can I upgrade to Snow Leopard or do I have to go all the way to the newest version?

You can also use iFunBox on Mac.

I may have a Snow Leopard disc from my MB. And yes, I think I am mainly just wanting to SSH. I need access to my iphone files.

I found the .dmg file but upon clicking I get "...not supported on this architecture."
Is that because I'm on 10.5.8?

It may be, not sure. There may be a info on their site. I'm on 10.9.2 and use it. The .dmg file needs to be mounted.

Not sure what ya mean by "like a zip file"...I did show contents and looked at the unix file. I guess I will try to load 10.6

I tried that but even after doing so it shows the icon having the circle with the line thru it.
Also tried installing 10.6 via disc but it isn't reading the drive all of the sudden...frustrating. Thanks for your help tho.

I've run out of ideas so I guess I will have to try on my MB.

You have to have "afc2add" from Cydia installed.

Just saw a post that said I would not be able to load 10.6 because I have a PowerPC instead on Intel...that sound right?

That would be correct, which also explains why Funbox etc. would not work on your device (they're Intel binaries). :/

Ugh, any other suggestions for SSH?
