Default iPhone 5s major jailbreak issues
Hi guys, been a long time since I logged into here. But I have decent experience jailbreaking iphones since 3gs days and have good amount of troubleshooting experience. I already googled help for the following problems and no solutions have worked.

So I have an iphone 5s on 7.0.3. My plan is to upgrade to 7.0.4 and jailbreak. Simple, right?

Well first, my iphone won't upgrade by any means to 7.0.4. I downloaded ipsw through itunes, tried to do regular upgrade, I get error 3004. I DL ipsw from iclarified, restore from backup with option key, error 3004. I tried to put phone in DFU mode and restore from backup and DFU mode even failed (i tried this in old redsnow program for guidance and it said "unexpected error" when following simple DFU instructions).

This is extremely confusing. The only thing I haven't tried is an OTA upgrade to 7.0.4 as i heard its highly recommended not to do if you want to jailbreak.

My next major problem is the evasion software. I downloaded it 3 times, each time I try to run i get an instant error message. The program won't even open.

I am at a total loss for both of these issues. Ive always been able to solve my jailbreak/iphone issues through google searches. Not so this time. Anyone got ideas?

Hi Braminc- my last iphone was also a 3gs 3 years ago and I have been hacking android phones since. Got the 5s in Sept. Lucky for me I got the unlock for $5 before that went thru the roof.

I waited till cydiaSubstrate was out before updating to 7.0.4. I plugged into my computer, and did the upgrade to 7.0.4 thru itunes. I had no problems. I can't help you there.

As for Evasi0n7, try to redownload. Maybe you got an incomplete file. That has happened to me many times with android roms. If you are short with the download, it will fail. So try a new download.

Good luck. Once you work out your iOS7.0.4 problems, hopefully you jailbreak fine. It was really self explanatory and simple when things go right. Fingers crossed for you.

Since you are not jailbroken yet maybe the Apple store can help you update??? Just a thought.
It doesn't cost anything to be nice and say thank you

I've tried redownloading evasion again. It's 15.4 mb file. Again error message. Will post screenshot soon.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

Would you mind checking your hosts file (/etc/hosts on OS X, use Command + Shift + G and paste in that path to jump straight there; %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts for Windows, use Windows key + R and paste the path in for the shortcut) and make sure no entries exist for "gs.apple.com"?

You can use the Terminal (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) to get there. It's a bit more complicated, but it should get the job done.

Open the Terminal app and run the following command:

    Code:
    $ sudo nano /etc/hosts
You will be prompted for your password. You must be an Administrator for this command to work. If you have another text editor you prefer (e.g., vim or ed) feel free to use that instead.

Once the file is loaded in your Terminal window, make any necessary edits and save (Control + O) then exit (Control + X). Try your DFU restore again.

    Is your iTunes up-to-date?

For the evasi0n problem: the application requires OS X 10.7 or newer to run.

    ...oh dear.

With that dollar sign, I meant to communicate that your BASH session was not being run as the superuser (superuser shells will have a # instead of the dollar sign).

My apologies, try again without typing in the dollar sign.
