Default General process for updating a jailbroken device?
    Hi there,

Is the correct process of updating a jailbroken device to a new firmware to:

    - restore jailbroken device to stock
    -update through iTunes
-restore from backup to regain settings and such
-jailbreak new firmware to regain Cydia

Is that right? If not, what am I doing wrong or extra?

    Thanks!

No and no, you will end up with the latest firmware and getting a tethered jailbreak if you are lucky. What is your device?

+1 With a non-authorized carrier (not AT&T in the US), a custom firmware is also needed.

GiVe us your current firmware , what firmware you intend to upgrade, I assume an iOS which can give u untethered jailbreak. You will need shsh blob tho.., check with tiny umbrella or look at front page of cydia will show u shsh blobs.

Remember to hit refresh often , so Mes can help you in the fast lane

    Nope I'm still here, sorry!

I have a CDMA iPhone 4 running 4.2.6 with shsh blobs saved on Cydia servers.

I'm planning to update to 5.0 when an untethered jailbreak is released, so thats the situation that I was referring to.

Side note, I thought shsh blobs are only required when downgrading after apple has stopped assigning them to previous firmwares. Why would it be necessary when upgrading to a newly released firmware?

You need SHSH if you ever wanted to downgrade. It's better be safe then sorrow

To be clear, though, I don't need anything but my iPhone and iTunes to update to a newer firmware?

Yes, It actually depends on what firmware you are and what firmware you want to be on. For example. I am on 4.1 FW and I want to be on 4.3.3 but the newest is 4.3.5. I can put my iphone in DFU mode press SHIFT+RESTORE select the 4.3.3 IPSW for iPhone 4 and then update it.
