Check and remove all lines that contain gs.apple.com from you hosts file before restoring w/iTunes.

Use Tiny Umbrella 'exit recovery' (not fix recovery) after a 4.1 restore with an iTunes 10xx error.
Trying one (exit or fix recovery), then another without a fresh restore is not reliable and may not work.

If everything else fails, use redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 with one (1) option "just enter pwnd-DFU" mode before restoring.

This can occur if the restore was not successful. Did you try it again with my suggestions?
Once the restore is successful, exit recovery will appear within Tiny Umbrella.
