Thread: Error Code 1015

  1. #1
    Question Error Code 1015
A friend purchased an iPhone 3GS used from eBay, unfortunately it was stuck in error code 1015 (recovery mode loop) when he got it.

The majority of the guides Ive come across say to use TinyUmbrella and run the Fix Recovery option, when I do that the phone reboots to a black screen and goes no further.

I've tried about 7 or 8 methods I've found and still end up at the connect to iTunes screen everytime.

Can anyone else suggest anything else? Im honestly not sure what I'm doing (don't own an iPhone myself) - Im just the default techie friend that gets asked to solve this kind of stuff for people

On the Tiny Umbrella blog site is a separate download called fixrecovery.
The zip file includes fixrecovery421 and fixrecovery43.
These two along with the the internal TU fixrecovery are used for different version restores.

Thanks for the response. I tried both 421 and 43, still end up at the connect to iTunes screen at the end.

To use fixrecovery421 and 43, you must put the device in ..... normal DFU mode .... before running.

Did that both times and didn't experience any success.

    Error 1015

This error is common when downgrading iPhones and 3G-enabled iPads. The problem occurs when the device's baseband has a higher version number than the baseband in the firmware you restored to. Just set auto-boot true in iRecovery or use iREB/TinyUmbrella/RecBoot.1

The fixrecovery tools were designed for this error. I'm stumped they don't work for you.

Last Q? Did you try 'exit recovery' from TU?

Yes I did, still end up back at itunes..I'm stumped too as this seems to be an easily fixed error for most people. But I'm not sure what is causing the error so it's hard to say....not sure what jailbreak was used on the device, if that would affect the resolution.

Not sure but I suspect, after iTunes reports error 1015 and the wrong '''''fixit'''' utility is used .... everything should be started over. Trying one, then the next, then the next is not likely to fix any problem.

I seriously doubt the prior jailbreak has anything to do with the current problem.
What's most important is what's happening now because restoring is supposed to clean everything and starts from scratch.

Sorry, the link pointed to the tiny umbrella site.

And .. I answered my own question. fixrecovery31 has the same SHA-1 hash codes so it is identical.
The only differences is the megaupload site includes z1lib.dll, and the tu site include fixrecovery421.

Thanks for the response! I tried this previously, but attempted again with the MU file you linked to:

    -Screen turns white
-Greenp0ison bootloader comes up, runs through then the phone goes back connect to itunes

-Connected to iTunes and tried to restore to a stock 4.1 image (which was grabbed from iPod, iPhone and iPad Firmware Download)
    -Get error code 20

So it's a little different now...
