Thread: Am I jailbreakable & unlockable.

Default Am I jailbreakable & unlockable.
Hi guys, bit of a lurker here, this is my first post.

I'm getting my mates' Iphone 3gs. It has 4.0.2 firmware, and the baseband 05.13.04.

What is the easiest, most idiot proof way of Jailbreaking & Unlocking it? I have read so much, I am very confused now. I have never had an Apple device before, so all this talk of blobs & ssh is making me cross-eyed.

+1 4.1 is a good choice. To keep your unlock, always use Pwnagetool or Sn0wbreeze to build and load a custom firmware.

Sorry for being dumb guys, but is Pwnage only for Mac? I have a pc, so should I use snowbreeze then?

Sn0wbreeze 2.1 is self explanatory. Download 4.1 3GS stock firmware. Run sn0wbreeze, select firmware, Simple Mode, and it builds custom firmware. Continue and it put the phone in pwnd-DFU mode. Shift/select custom firmware restore w/iTunes.

Install ultrasn0w via Cydia for the unlock.

Cheers dude, I've downloaded the firmware (4.1 8B117), but snowbreeze is saying it's not a valid ipsw file? I've tried snowbreeze 1.8, and 1.7. What did I do wrong?

Thanks for your help & patience guys. I now have a jailbroken & unlocked iPhone! Thanks very much.

In what I doubt is my last question; is it 'safe' to create an Itunes account now, to download apps etc?

    Nice one, thanks.

One small problem is that I don't seem to have any sound now. For notifications, messages ringtones or anything?

    Hi again guys, a couple of quick & probably stupid questions;

I seem to be having some issues with notifications etc, should I update to a newer firmware version? Is this likely to help? Any guides I should follow.

I have searched, but most guides assume a level of knowledge I'm not in possession of!

As usual, please tailor your replies to idiot-proof standard

Ok I'm going for it, I'm following this guide:

    http://modmyi.com/forums/general/737...g-3gs-4-a.html

Now, I've just created the custom firmware with snowbreeze, and I chose the option to preserve the unlockable baseband. When I install the custom firmware, will my phone still be jailbroken?
