Question Error codes when trying to restore to 4.2.1 CFW
Ok, so I'm not really sure what is going on here, so I thought I'd ask the experts!
I'm trying to restore my 3GS using a Snowbreeze created 4.2.1 CFW(the phone is at 4.2.1, currently). BL is 05.15.04(not sure if that matters). When I try to restore through iTunes, I get an error message that says "The iPhone cannot be restored at this time because the iPhone software update server could not be contacted or is unavailable." Why might this be?

Old iOS firmware versions are not authorized by Apple
That's the whole purpose of Tiny Umbrella. TU saves the authorization (aka SHSH blobs) as they come so old versions can be loaded later.

Download Tiny Umbrella, connect the device, in advanced tab check 'get from Cydia', save SHSH. Then uncheck 'get from Cydia' and save SHSH.

In the general tab, what SHSH blobs to you have?

Ok. Jumped into TinyUmbrella and hit "Save SHSH". Under the General tab, it still shows no SHSH's as being saved. Also, the phone was 4.2.1 and not jailbroken. I wanted to wipe all my old data off of it, jailbreak it, and give it to my brother. I decided to use the "Reset All Settings" in the phone and it wiped everything, yes. Problem is, I have NOTHING on the home screen of the phone, AT ALL. Just the default wallpaper and I can see the dock. No icons. I was using 4.2.1 CFW to hopefully restore it, without having to jump all the way to 4.3.5. As I understand the only jailbreak available is tethered? That's what I'm hoping to avoid...BTW, I'm using TinyUmbrella v5.00.00. Not sure if that makes a difference. It does show and verify that the phone is still 4.2.1 with 05.15.04-6.4_M3S2 Baseband.

Sorry, but with zero (0) SHSH blobs, you have one (1) choice. 4.3.5.

Edit: Two (2) choices. Stay put or 4.3.5

Edit #2: Maybe a third. iFaith 1.3 was just released. If your phone is working on 4.2.1 ... it is possible to build a pre-signed firmware from the current version.

Maybe in 5 more minutes .... there'll be another choice. j/k.. I think that's it.

Running iFaith, right now. After it's done dumping the SHSH, what is my next step? Probably a stupid question, but I'd rather ask it, than mess something up.

That didn't work, so I'm in the process of uninstalling iTunes and QuickTime and downloading the newest versions. Then, Ill restart and give it a shot again.

I want to say 10.4? That can't be right; it must have been the version right before 10.4, as I was prompted to download 10.4 everytime I opened iTunes.
