I just re read everything you all suggested, and wont redsnow rc8 be tethered? does that mean I'd need to run something else as well?

rc8 is untethered. Nothing else required.

By the way, the major factor in determining if your Phone will be tethered or not isn't the jailbreaking software you use,
its the model of phone you have (and which exploits are available for jailbreaking it).

For newer devices, certain firmwares and certain JB tools will give you tethered, others untethered.
For older devices, if the firmware and tools work at all, they'll be untethered for sure.

older = more exploits, more ways to [email protected]
newer = shinier, prettier, sexier toy, but fewer exploits and more effort to make them work.

It means you need to restore iPhone to factory default.

All iOS up to 4.3.3 is already untethered , if you are still tethered , then you have done something wrong.

You should upgrade your iPhone or buy an iPad 2 , iPad apps has way more features and more fun to play

Once you restored, let your sim activate ,do your jailbreak ,then you can setup as new or backup restore in iTunes .

Nvm , if your previous backup has no problem , then a backup restore will get you back everything, otherwise setup as new.

Sync back to iTunes with your account, I am sure you have authorize your computer to DL back your apple apps.

The free version of iphonebrowser works well too. But as xtacy said, you probably don't need it.

Last thing, for safety you should change the default openssh passwords for both user mobile and root. The easiest is to install Mobile Teeminal via Cydia. When you first start Mobile Terminal you are user mobile. Type: passwd. Enter alpine, then your new password twice. Finished user mobile, now for root: Type: su. Enter alpine. Then type passwd, then your new password twice. Home button terminates Mobile Terminal. Done.

If you want to use winscp, you need to generate a key in your iPhone first, then add the key in winscp.
