Thread: iPhone 4 - 4.2.1 Restore Issues - 1013 Error

  1. #1
I was running 4.2.1 before I ran into some mobile substrate issues causing endless safe modes, so I decided to restore, staying on 4.2.1. However I continue to get 1013 errors when restoring.

After a ton of reading, I believe these are related to signature validation issues with my blobs. I am "shift" restoring to saved firmware "iphone3,1_4.2.1_8c148_Restore.ipsw". Knowing that Apple has released a newer version, I am running TSS server in TU and I have confirmed I have my 4.2.1 blobs saved. I also pinged gs.apple.com and I am getting 127.0.0.1 as the IP, so I know it is running properly. I also tried restoring with the host files including the gs.apple.com entries and without. Still getting the 1013 errors.

    Thoughts? - ...thanks!

...also, worth noting, I have tried to kick out of recovery after getting the error and it does not kick out.

    Step 1. Start –> Programs –> Accessories
Step 2. Run Notepad or WordPad
Step 3. Click “Open..” from File menu.
    Step 4. Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc
Step 5. In “files of type:” select all documents
    Step 6. Open “hosts”
Step 7. Delete all line that has “gs.apple.com” in it
    Step 8. Hit Save
    Step 9. Redo restore process

When you arrive at error 1013, close the error box.
Put your recovery mode iphone into normal DFU .
Now your iphone is in DFU ( Black Screen)
Apply fix recovery , you can download from here
This fix recovery is a standalone fix which will kick out error 1013.

He cannot restore to 4.2.1 without using Tss Server as Apple isn't signing 4.2.1 anymore. In other words, he cannot point his hosts file towards Apple Server as he is trying to restore to IOS 4.2.1 unless it is a 3g iphone.

Edit: after receiving 1013, open TinyUmbrella and hit "fix recovery" (not exit recovery)

If that doesn't work, and if it isn't an iPhone 3G, run Greenpois0n on it to get out of recovery mode.
