    Default Looking for help... Again
I have an iPhone 3G with a damaged screen (a line through the display from being dropped). *It was previously jailbroken and running 3.1.3. However, since we are basically going to give it to a younger person to use as an iPod, I wanted to update the software in case they want to download apps since most require 4.2. I restored in iTunes to upgrade, expecting to get the 1015 error (since the baseband was updated when it was jailbroken) which I did. However, TU wouldn't kick it out like it did for my other phones. I tried redsnow but got stuck at the apple logo on reboot.

I am pretty computer literate but every time I try to jailbreak one of our iPhones I run into issues. Please help!

You need to use a custom firmware. Now assuming you have a pc head over to iH8sn0w.com | Jailbreak your iPod touches and iPhones and grab sn0wbreeze. Also go to felixbruns.de and click ipod firmware. Make sure you are using firefox for this or else it will not work. Then download an iPhone 3G 4.2.1 firmware. After these both finish downloading open sn0wbreeze up. Choose the firmware file that says iPhone1,1.....ipsw follow all of the steps and activate if you do not have the original sim card. Open iTunes up and then click shift and then restore. Choose the newly created custom firmware. After it finishes restoring you should be all set.

I tried the custom firmware route too but I got an error message I had never seen before. I had a house full of people so I was pretty distracted. I could have very well done something wrong. I will give it another shot. I deleted the custom firmware I created so I will try from the beginning again and report back.

When restoring to custom firmware, make sure you put your iphone into pwned dfu mode or else itunes will give you an error. You can use Redsn0w RC8 to put your iphone 3g into pwned dfu mode. Make sure your CFW does not have ipad bb update.

Thanks for all the input, guys! I finally got it. The cfw did the trick. Heaven knows what I did the first time that it didn't work.

Are they boxes? I am on iPad using Emoji , I do see them here.
It is possible they don't convert properly.
