Thread: Cydia crash!

    Default Cydia crash!
Don't know if this is in the right forum section... But I'm having a problem with Cydia crashing.

Short story, loading Cydia while having no HDD space yielded error, and now even with increased HDD space, Cydia crashes to the springboard immediately after "Loading..." screen.

Long story, initially a bug with the backup app DataDeposit which crashed when my iPhone ran out of disk space while generating a .zip backup file (my iPhone had literally less than 10MB free space). I then opened up Cydia and noticed it refusing to load packages because of lack of free space (some red lines displayed). I quit, freed up space with iTunes, and now Cydia crashes right after its "Loading..." screen.
I've looked up and tried all sorts of fixes short of re-jailbreaking (respring/reboot/safemode; removing files from /var/lib/apt/lists/ and/or from root/private/ect/apt/sources.list.d/ ; running apt-get update via my WinSCP Terminal ; ...) but the same problem persists.

Can anyone please help me out?! I haven't figured out a way to reinstall Cydia - all the guides around the web are really dated and refer to the older jailbreaks or apps (Rock) not applicable to my situation.

    Specs: iPhone 4 running 4.3.3, untethered-jailbroken with sn0wbreeze.
Accessible tools: iFile, SSH via WinSCP

It's hard to tell what's going on really. It might be beneficial to just restore and rejailbreak. Cydia problem are probably the hardest to really diagnose and fix manually.

That's very unfortunate I'd at least like to try re-installing Cydia first - how do I go about doing that?

Don't know if this could help diagnose, but here is the cydia.log file under /tmp after a crash. I don't know how to read this :S

Sorry I don't know how to read that either. Maybe Orbyorb will come in and help you with this

I actually always just restore when Cydia problems occur. Reinstalling Cydia isn't an easy task but if I remember correctly, it is doable. I don't know how bc I personally don't find it safe, but there are more than one method.

You'd probably want to look into SSH and using a Cydia.deb file. I don't know the specifics on how to do that but if you have experience with SSH it shouldn't be hard. Just have to google up how to install .deb files via SSH.

Reason why I don't know how to do it is bc this to me is more of a hassle than just restoring and rejailbreaking

Hehe, well everything else works fine, I just can't update Cydia apps or get new ones and that's not such a critical issue for me in the short term. I previously had such a horrendous experience getting my current jailbreak to work (no idea what I did wrong), so I'll hold off restoring/rejailbreaking as a last resort and try to figure out the Cydia reinstallation first.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I read about that fix, but my /private/var/lib/dpkg/updates folder is empty already...
