Default Help... Problem with Jailbreaking unactivated iphone3gs
    Hi,

I'm in a serious problem and stuck around the same problem since 6 hours..

I have an iphone 3gs and it is unactivated so I don't know the baseband and I don't know the firmware. When I plugged it in, I restored it with itunes (I hope this didn't mess anything).

So it is now factory reset with itunes 10.2.2 and I still don't know the firmware nor the base band.

I tried to jailbreak it using RedSn0w but it stucks at the first waiting for reboot. it just won't reboot and every fixes on the web aren't any help...

So how could I try to jailbreak this iphone?

    Thanks a lot!

try using sn0wbreeze (Windows) or pwnage tool (mac) and restoring using the custom ipsw it creates.

    Thanks , I'll try that!

Is there any way to tell if I have an iphone 3g or 3gs?

Physically, the only way I know of is to look at the lettering on the back. If it's shiny/mirrored like the apple logo, it is a 3GS.

So my main problem was that I was in possession of an iphone 3g and I was trying to install the 3gs firmware...

I'm sorry to have taken your time. But you really helped me!

The auction on ebay said 3gs... Do you know if there is something I can do?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Yes, if it is a shiny logo on the back , then it is a 3gs, do your jailbreak with redsn0w RC16, if the logo has a dull black, then it is a 3g, jailbreak with redsn0w RC8. Make sure you put your redsn0w in xp2 compatibility mode first.

Well mine is white and as shiny logo. Although, the lettering is flat gray?

If you get it working, open the camera app. If it has a video camera app (slider in the lower right corner to switch from still to video camera), then it is a 3GS. The casing is not the best way to tell as it could have been changed.
