Thread: yet another shsh question

    Default yet another shsh question
currently running 4.0.1 (hasn't been updated yet, still on unlockable bb).
i jailbroke it while on at&t on previous owner's account and went into cydia and told it to make my life easier. then hooked it up to my computer, downloaded tiny umbrella and told it to save my shsh files. tiny umbrella saves 4.1 and 4.2b3.. but not 4.0.1 - that's the os that it's currently on, is there any way to get it to save 4.0 so that i can restore it?

(i need it unlocked so can't update to 4.1 yet... praying for 4.2 to come out soon!)

    thanks ahead of time.

No, you can't save 4.0.1 shsh blogs because apple is not signing 4.0.1 anymore.
However , if you want to preserve your baseband , then you can either restore to custom firmware created by Pwnage tools 4.1.2 or Snowbreeze 2.1

shweet! i'll look into that then so if i preserve my baseband (which is 01.59.00) using pwnage/snowbreeze i can have update to my custom 4.1 and have it unlockable, right?
    if so, yay!
and thanks for the fast reply

You can unlock with Ultrasn0w as long as your baseband is not 02.10.04

Use iReb (or better yet) Tiny Umbrella to kick it out of recovery mode.

Because the baseband was NOT updated (good), iTunes reported an error, but the 4.1 update should be ok.

BTW: I think this iTunes baseband error message applies only to the iPhone 4.

no luck, just popped back into recovery mode with an error 21 this time. tried again, now hanging out in a recovery loop. i'll try again...

Apple is signing 4.1, so using Tiny Umbrella to prevent the baseband update while loading 4.1 IS a perfectly acceptable method .. and the baseband update error ID expected.

Not sure what's different in your case. Maybe start completely over? Are you using the latest iTunes?

  14. #11
yeah i'm using 10.1, the error 21 according to apple's website is about security software, the thing is i actually have none, so i don't know what it's going off of. i even temporarily turned off my firewall to see if that had anything to do with it (i have a pc)but still error 21.
i'm down to start completely over again, but i may have already done that.
i kicked my phone out of recovery mode using tiny umbrella, it went right back in. from there i could only shift +restore and use my custom ipsw. it goes through the motions then gives error 21 again. any step i'm missing as far as starting completely over again is concerned?

thanks for all your help guys, i really do appreciate it.

Do you have a pc, your itunes must be 10.
If you do have a pc, run redsn0w 0.9.6b2 to put you into DFU mode and then shift + restore to the custom fw of 4.1

^^Oops ... I forgot that tiny (but very important) piece of info. Sorry ambeester

These tiny 'got-yas' is the reason I almost always use PwnageTool. It does everything in one or two simple steps.

if i could use pwnage i would, but i am a pc gal until i'm rich enough for mac.

i'll try redsn0w and let you know, my phone is still in recovery mode. and yeah, my itunes is 10.1, so is that okay or should it only be 10?

FYI: Snowbreeze was recently updated for the PC. It does a pretty good job too (maybe as good as Pwnage).

-- looks like redn0w isn't recognizing the ipsw so it won't let me get to the dfu part since the very first thing it is asking for is the ipsw. haha now this is just like walking through a jailbreak, i'm sorry guys.

When running redsn0w , you browse to stock 4.1 not custom fw and only check the box , dfu mode

In case you were wondering, PwnageTool and Snowbreeze create custom firmwares (no baseband update), most other jb'ing methods use a stock firmware load which is bad for unlockers because stock firmware loads update the baseband / modem firmware.

Redsn0w is special kludge to get into DFU mode and load a custom firmware build by Pwnage or Snowbreeze

Click Next the same time you press the Power button for 3 secs, and then both button for 10 secs and then release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for another 15 secs, it will say when done.

If you fail the first time, you can try as many times as you wish until you get it right, I had to do it 3 or 4 times..LOL

got into dfu mode, tried all over again; this time back to error 14.

kicking it out of recovery in tiny umbrella doesn't work, just puts it right back into recovery. tried three different usb ports on this computer now.
