Thread: Hosts file for restorying to Cydia SHSH?

Default Hosts file for restorying to Cydia SHSH?
I'm having trouble getting TinyUmbrella to run TSS server, no matter what I do I can't seem to free up port 80. So I believe I can restore to SHSH just using a modified hosts file, can someone take a look at my hosts file and tell me if it's already setup for this or if I need to change something? (I did fiddle with this before but couldn't do a successful restore as I didn't have SHSH on file for that device)

    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
    # 127.0.0.1 localhost
    # ::1 localhost
    #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    #74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
    Thanks

It looks fine for using cydia instead of Aplle's server. Tiny umbrella actually automatically points your hosts to cydia now when you exit it, so editing them manually is no longer required.

This is what I think, not 100% sure
    To run tss server ,
hosts file should be 127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
    Hosts.umbrella file should be 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

I can't run TSS server though, since there is some task running on port 80 that I can't identify (it's not my antivirus, I don't have skype, etc)

what model phone are you trying to restore? if it's a 3G or 3GS your host file is fine for restoring without using tinyumbrella as it's pointing to cydia as x98car said, if you are trying to restore an iPhone 4 to 4.1 and maintain the baseband you are going to have to find what's running on port 80 and stop it
