Default Jailbroken 3gs Need Help Upgrading re-jailbraking
I seem to be getting lost in the jailbrake/unlock information and would appreciate some help.

The phone: jailbroken 3gs 3.1.3 bb 5.13; my shsh blob is saved on cydia and in tiny umbrella.

Now that so many of you have worked out the bugs, I'm ready to upgrade to IOS4 or 4.1 (whatever is recommended at this point).

Should I just upgrade and then re-jailbrake with limera1n or pwnage? An unlock, at this point isn't needed.

Working off of a Mac Book pro w/ OS X 10. (the latest edition).

You will need to update your itunes to 10 first
Since an unlock is not needed, you can restore to IOS 4.1 and jailbreak with GP or Limera1n. Make sure you leave your official sim card to activate first before doing the jailbreak.

If you want to preserve your baseband use pwnage tool. If you dont care about that just update to 4.1 then use limera1n or greenpoison to jailbreak.

Edit: Dang, gotta type faster. Beat me to the punch Yeow :P

Thanks! On the baseband, isn't that part of the ipsw which is saved with Cydia?

iTunes already updated to 10. Not sure what you are referring to on the sim card.

I've read about the sim card activate, but since I'm w/ the official carrier, didn't think I needed to worry about this piece.

The baseband is the part of the iphone that gets unlocked. You sound like you are talking about SHSH which is something different. If you are not worried about unlocking just update then jailbreak.

No you dont have to worry about that since you are on official carrier, itunes will activate the iphone for you just fine.

    x98car and yeow202 - rockstars!

You are correct I was referring to the shsh blobs w/ Cydia.

However, I also have saved via tiny umbrella 3.1.3 ipsw restore files. Is that what is needed for preserving the baseband?

No, to preserve your baseband you need pwnage tool and the 4.1 firmware. Basically you stick that 4.1 firmware into pwnage tool and it creates a custom 4.1 firmware with the baseband update taking out of it. You would then restore to that custom firmware in itunes instead of the regular one. This is how unlockers are able to update and stay unlocked.
