Thread: unlocking on 4.1

    Default unlocking on 4.1
Simple question and I apologize. I read on the pdf that updating to stock 4.1 renders the iphone unlockable because it updates the baseband. I'm not sure what "stock" means. Anyway, i was wondering if i update my iphone 3G through itunes to 4.1 whether I'll be able to unlock via ultrasnow.

    Thanks!

Stock refers to stock firmware, which you get when you update or restore your phone through iTunes. Stock firmware is unjailbroken and all set to Apple's original settings.

Do not update your iPhone to 4.1 if you rely on an unlock for an unofficial carrier. When you update to 4.1, it also upgrades your phone's baseband, which determines whether your phone can be unlocked or not. 4.1's baseband, 5.14.02, cannot be unlocked.

If you want to upgrade to 4.1 while still being able to unlock, you'll need to do it through custom firmware. Pwnagetool for Mac, sn0wbreeze for Windows.
