    Default IPhone 4 upgrade to 4.1 ??
    Hi all

Just a quick one for all you pros out there.

    I have a new iphone4 and it come with 4.0.2 :-(

But it is factory unlocked so I will never need any of the unlocks. So shall I just upgrade to 4.1 as there is no sign that anyone is working on a jailbreak for 4.0.2 and all the talk is about 4.1. So shall I just upgrade 4.1 and wait for shatter ??

    Thanks guys

    Same with me.

I backed up SHSH's with tiny umbrella just in case. Then upgraded to 4.1

Now to patiently wait for the jailbreak sunrise ;-)

since you don't require an unlock then there is no reason not to update, it's really up to you

Yeh i have backed mine up with Tiny but were too late for 4.0.2 so it only backed up 4.1 so i guess there is no point at all staying on 4.0.2 ??

And what are the chances of them Jailbreaking 4.0.2 before 4.1 ??

Let me know what you think ?

There will be no JB for 4.0.2. The new JB will likely be for 4.1 or later. It's safe for you to upgrade.

Don't go to 4.1 it will update your baseband to 5.14.02 which is not unlockable
Don't even let iTunes download it cause some users report that when they sync it installs it
    4.0.1 is jailbreakme.com
4.0.2 is unjailbreakable at this current time it should be with in the next week or 3 lol

He is running an iPhone 4 which doesn't have the same basebands as the others. You said you don't need an unlock so it doesn't matter, but if you update with tiny umbrella running it will keep you at the old baseband (1.59.00).

Like i said before i dont need to keep the baseband as its Factory unlocked.

I tried letting itunes update and it downloaded and started to install (i was not running tiny umbrella) and then itues came up with an error saying it could not update and i had to restore ? i have altered my HOST files before when you had to do it to get Cydia to back them up maybe that is something to do with it. so i used Tiny to kick it our of recovery and i had 4.1 running on 1.59.00

    So my question now is.

    1. has the phone been updated properly, or is it missing bits ?
    2. did itunes give the message because i altered the host file ?
    3. shall i do the Shift restore again running Tiny ?
    4. And finally is there any benifit from updating basebands?or is it just a tool used by Apple to close unlocks?
5 and if i restore again running tiny and doing a Shift restore will that update my baseband?
    6. and lastly how do i stop itunes kicking up the message and update properly for the future. Do i need to do something with the HOST files again if so what ??

Sorry to ask so many questions but if someone could get back to me as soon as possible.

    Thanks Guys

    1) it should be fine
    2) possibly
    3) I wouldn't unless you happen to notice glitches or errors
    4) no benefits that I have ever noticed
    5) since you are factory unlocked it doesn't matter whether your baseband ever gets updated because it will always remain unlocked so that will never be a concern
    6) I have restored my wife's iPhone 4 twice and got similar errors both times with the host file edited and also not edited so I wouldn't really worry too much about it
