    Default problem with TinyUmbrella
hi, i am a new iPhone 4 owner, its a locked one and i had to restore it and itunes updated my phone to OS 4.1 ( i didnt know it was a stupid move back then):s

I found a couple of sites with steps to downgrade iPhone from 4.1 to 4.0.1 using SHSH blobs. I didn’t save them so I had to download TinyUmbrella to extract them from the server, the problem is my iPhone 4 was OS 4.0.1, and the program cant find any SHSH files, its only successful finding iPhone 3g OS 4.0.1!! I don’t have one so how come its successful finding the shsh files???! Am so confused and can find a useful way downgrading my iPhone… plz any help?

Btw I know it could be a stupid question but can I downgrade my iPhone 4 OS 4.1 to iPhone 3g 4.0.1?

    thanks

Probably just a glitch that you are getting iPhone 3G SHSH back. Without iPhone 4 4.0.1 SHSH there is no way you can downgrade, sorry.

Without a SHSH saved for your i4, yes. Youre stuck. And if you're talking UNLOCK and not just jailbreak, you may be stuck longer than that as you also upgraded your baseband when you did 4.0.1. The dudes at chronic dev haven't said anything about unlockability with 4.1 YET to my knowledge.

One n00bish question. I never could get the "modded host file" thing to work for me. My question is after the 4.1 jb drops, if Apple is still signing, can I get tiny umbrella to save my SHSH and bypass the need to mod this files?

I deleted iTunes 9.2 completely and reinstalled 10 just to make sure my host file was back to normal and haven't touched it since.

Not a problem since I'm 4.0.1 but I'm just wondering.....

You can save your SHSH for 4.1 now with tiny umbrella. No need to update or wait for the jailbreak.

But will it bypass the need for me to edit the host file? The "TSS server" button?

Edit; I'm sure I can do it, I'm just wondering because I'm ALL about easy and convenience....

Yes you do not need to edit your hosts files when using tiny umbrella

Generally, Tiny Umbrella can only retrieve SHSH for firmware that apple is currently signing. That means 4.1 for you right now. If you saved SHSH when apple was signing 4.0.1, then Cydia has them. If not, then you are stuck for now. JB is coming soon, I get the feeling within days to weeks. If you updated your baseband (which you probably did along with 4.1), you are locked for the foreseeable future even when you JB. How foreseeable? Nobody knows.

In some cases Cydia has SHSH of earlier firmwares even when people did not save them. I don't know why, but this does not apply to the Iphone 4.

How do I know if I updated my baseband? And if I did updated it can it be unlocked if the new JB is working with the new OS?

If you went to 4.1 then you updated your baseband. So even when the jailbreak comes out you will not be able to unlock.

But if you want to check, go to settings - general - about - modem firmware.

01.59.00 - can unlock when JB released
    02.10.40 - no luck

Ok, I have 2 iPhone 4's. One my wife upgraded to 4.1, she had 4.01 and before she did I did JB and save SHSH with Cyndia. Question, when 4.1 JB comes out, can I restore her baseband to 01.59.00 to also unlock AFTER I JB her iPhone 4? Second iPhone 4 is 4.0.2 (originally 4.0.1) and upgraded to 4.0.2 w/ baseband 01.59.00 WITHOUT an SHSH save. I did however save what's on here now which is 4.0.2 (umbrella 4.1.4) which btw was updated from 4.1.3 to sign for 4.1 because Apple stopped signing for 4.0.2. I'm going to update to 4.1 with umbrella, question is this: can I also after JB is released, unlock my iPhone 4 since it's on baseband 01.59.00? I'm asking because my SHSH weren't saved for 4.0.1, they were saved for 4.0.2, however I kept my baseband of 01.59.00, and from what I understand baseband 01.59.00 is unlockable but even if it's in 4.0.2? Thanks so much for all your help, I've spent weeks reading as to not impose too much!

there is no way to downgrade the baseband once it's updated (except for a select few old 3g's), as for the one that is on 4.0.2 with 01.59.00 you can update it to 4.1 using the method on tinyumbrellas site to preserve the baseband and once the jailbreak is releases you can still unlock with ultrasn0w

@NHL, can you tell me.... what if my modem firmware is 05.14.02? what then? I have a iphone 3g 3.1.2 jailbroken with cydia before i stupidly restore it. At the time i mistake and thought i was upgrading to 4.01 until it was too late, now the infomation on the phone are as follows
    Model MB048LL
    Modem Firmware 05.14.02
    Version 4.1 (8B117)
is it too difficult to downgrade to 4.01 and even if i was able to downgrade to 4.01 and j/b it is unlock possible?

Just a quick question. My wife had her iphone 4 replaced by Apple today. The first was on 4.1 with unlock-able base-band 02.10.40 she used itunes to 'set up from backup' and upgraded her now old iphone 4 to 4.1. The new (replaced) iphone however now has base-band 01.59.00 with fv 4.0.2. What I would like to know is because her itunes account now thinks she has 4.1, how do I go about doing the base-band save with tiny-umbrella and then loading fv 4.1 via tiny-umbrella download? I guess I'm just confused how to go about doing the restore since her itunes thinks shes on base-band 02.10.40 & fv 4.1? Thanks again to everyone who contributes here, your a big help!

Thanks j3st3r3, you've been such a great help! Too many plp overlook how important devs like yourself are to the 'JB/Unlock' world, so thanks again.
Ok, I successfully upgraded to 4.1 and kept my base band of 1.59! I feel like such a newbie/nerd, lol. I did take my time and read all over the place that TU linked to help with the upgrade, however what none of the articles covered was after all is done and the iphone is kicked out of recovery mode and itunes restarts and it recognizes
your phone, which mode do you choose? From BACK UP or AS NEW PHONE? Also, if as BACK UP, then on my wife's iphone 4 hers WAS ON 4.1 & BB 02.10.40 threw itunes, wouldn't that mess up her now saved TU backup? Or will it work just as mine did and save from TU? Sorry for the what may be obvious answer, I just don't want to mess hers up! Thanks -

Restoring from backup or setting up as new will not affect your baseband or anything that tiny umbrella did. You can choose either one.
