Default Restoring Without Updating (iPhone 4.0.1)
My phone was synced to a computer that cant be accessed anymore so I cant sync my phone to any other computer. I want to restore my phone but I don't want to upgrade because I want to re-jailbreak it. I dont want how and need some help here haha. Oh and how can I save my contacts, is there something on Cydia I can use?

  2. #2
Why can't you sync with an other computer? Is it detected?

You can only restore to 4.0.1 if you have the SHSH blobs.

    what kind of phone?

  4. #4
Idk why it won't i thought it would. It shows up in iTunes an I can view my phoe etc but I can't put music on or anything without syncing it with that computer which results in a restore.
    And it's an iPhone 4 running 4.0.1

    And what are shsh blobs?

    To clarify upon this...

    Download TinyUmbrella from here.

Run it as administrator, let it have any privileges it wants.

Plug in your ipod/iphone and make sure that it's detected

Go under "Advanced Options" and select the firmware file that you want to restore to (of your device version).

Make sure it's requesting from Cydia

    Click "Save my SHSH"

Or since your phone is already jailbroken just go into cydia and tell us what the green letters on the top are saying.

This kind of relates to me, and I want to make sure I understand. I have two phones; an iPhone 4 and 3G which I'm going to sell. Both are JB'd, but the 3G hasn't been upgraded to iOS 4 (it's still on 3.1.2). Both have SHSH blobs stored on Cydia.

Before I sell my 3G, I need to restore it to "factory settings'. Since my iTunes points to Cydia, I'm thinking when I restore the 3G, the new os will be 4.0.1, since this is what my 4 is running. When iTunes goes to "verify with Apple and install the latest software, it will install the latest release that I'm running. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance for your help.

If you have the shsh saved for the devices then all you have to do is shift and click restore and choose the current firmware you have. Your host files need to point to sauriks servers but you said iTunes points to cydia so I think that's what you meant.

No problem let us know if it worked. You might have to use tinyumbrella do save your shsh I'm not sure but you can do it just to be sure unless someone else can verify.

Hm... when I try to do the restore and point to the ipsw file, I get a message in iTunes that it is incompatible with the device (my 3G). I'm wondering if I need to do this, since when iTunes goes to Apple it is really going to Saurik. What I don't want to do is end up loading iOS 4.1...

    Thoughts?

Double check to make sure you have the correct ispw and get tinyumbrella. Close itunes and Once you launch umbrella click advance options choose the correct version and cydia then click save shsh. Now click display shsh to make sure it was saved and click start tss server. Now open iTunes and shift click restore and choose The ipsw. That should definitely make it work.

Make sure you downloaded the shsh for 4.0.1 and not 4.0.2 because you can't jailbreak 4.0.2.
Close iTunes click start TSS server on umbrella open up iTunes shift click restore and choose 4.0.1 firmware. If you get an error after restoring, which you shouldn't, Click "kick device out of recovery"
You can use securedcontacts from cydia to upload your contacts to a webserver. I have never used it so I don't know how secure it is.
Or you could ssh into your phone and back up the phonebook and then restore the file after you restore your phone.it should be in /var/mobile/Library/AddressBook/AddressBook.sqlitedb
