Thread: Sound Randomly Stopped Working

    Default Sound Randomly Stopped Working
Certain sound features have stopped working on my iphone 3GS 4.0:
-Text alerts with or without headphones
-Ring tones with or without headphones
    -Notifications with or without headphones
-mute switch doesn't work with or without headphones

    What still works:
-Call audio during use with or without headphones
-Speaker during calls with or without headphones
    -Music with and without headphones

    I did not:
    -Upgrade anything or install anything
    -Plug in or remove headphones

Everything just happened randomly. I did a full restore but no luck there either. Any recommendations?

Sounds like it is a hardware issue, might be time for an upgrade.

Did you check the switch on left side to make sure you didn't flip sound off? This happened to me and my buddy just days apart. Silly question I know but you gotta ask

I appreciate the suggestion! But yeah, this was one of the first things I checked. I've been playing with it too. Along with plugging in and removing my headphones over and over. My test alarm just went off which is good. So weird...

When I switch the mute button on or off nothing pops up on the screen.

if you have restored and the problem persists then I would have to guess it's a hardware issues
