    Default Wow! really screwed!
    Iphone 3g on 3.1.2

I have an Iphone 4 so I decided to clean the 3g of my personal info. I used settings/restore off of the phone. This phone was JB with pwnage tool at 3.1.2 My goal was to re jb at 3.1.3 and wait there until the performance issue with OS4 was taken care of.

I was prepared to wait and and while doing this, I downloaded Pwnage 3.1.5 and 3.1.3 files. After 3 hours I got a little concerned after the screen just showed the "pineapple". I tried DFU mode and got nowhere. I went ahead and tried to "re jail break" using 3.1.3 and got to DFU mode and kept getting "fail".

So I spent the better part of the evening studying this form and others. I see many have had the same problem and were successful.

I did a backup with Itunes (9.2) prior to this problem.
Cydia has the SHSH on file for this 3g

I even thought what the heck, I'll just try and update to 4.02 and see what happens with this. Itunes kicked the phone twice!

I installed Tiny Umbrella and read Suriaks tutorial, no luck with this either!

    I'm not too worried yet!

I'm on a MB with SL all up to date as well.

Please guys I could use some help. Still no luck after working on the phone today.

    Same as last night.

I've downloaded 3.1 ISPW file and recboot. I've not run either yet.

Phone is black, not sure if its stuck in DFU or recovery mode.

    Phone is dead!

Should I charge it up first before trying anything or can I work on it while it charges?

Yes, you can do that, by the way, if you are still jailbroken, you can always restore to custom firmware, what OS do you want?

I see that you want to restore back to 3.1.3.
This is what you should do now when it is fully charged.
For Mac : Download Pwnage tools 3.1.5 and create a cfw of 3.1.3
For PC : Download SnowBreeze 1.5.2 to create a cfw of 3.1.3
Put your Iphone into Recovery mode
Shift + Restore to cfw 3.1.3
Once you done, you are jailbroken at 3.1.3

OK I've got the phone plugged in at wall receptacle for the time being. After a few minutes the phone is showing the black screen with the pineapple as it did last night.

Last evening I ran Pwnage 3.1.5 a few times and got kicked each time when I got to "turn phone off", as the phone was at the above mentioned pineapple. Seem as I was not fast enough to turn it off then go into DFU mode. itunes also kept popping up each time recognizing the phone was in, I believe it said "recovery mode".

DFU is hold home and power for 10 seconds and then the home for a further 10 seconds, correct?

What is the process for recovery mode?

Download tiny umbrella and there is a function, kick out of recovery. Have you tried that.

Your iphone must be in recovery mode and still jailbroken to restore to Custom Firmware

To do a recovery mode :
Turn off the Iphone by holding both button.
When it is off, hold the Home Button and plug your cable into the pc until the Itunes cable logo / Steve Job face comes on.

Plugged into my macbook now, opened Tiny Umbrella:
"Kick device out of recovery" is blanked out, I can't click it. Should I put the phone into recovery manually?

Yes, put your iphone into recovery and restore to 3.1.3 again.

Tiny Umbrella will not kick DFU mode, it only kicks recovery mode.

Sorry this guide below is supposed to be for the other person, I was guiding you on Custom Firmware. Handling 3 or 4 guys at the same time , sometimes tend to forget.. , but the bottom guide is also meant for 3g users
You can read this guide if you are not too sure how to go about.

    How to Jailbreak 3.1.3 iPhone 3G & iPod Touch 1G/2G Windows & OS X

If you think that you have messed it up by applying jailbreak twice , then you will have to restore to Stock firmware and do the jailbreak again.

Good, you know you can download the firmware from here :
iClarified - iPhone - Where To Download iPhone Firmware Files From
If you are restoring to 3.1 ipsw, then you have to use Blackra1n to jailbreak, maybe redsn0w can do it too.

Yes, you can try and build it, it will be placed on your desktop.
Put your iphone into recovery mode and do the restore, let me know.

If you are restoring to a stock firmware , then custom firmware will not work , it has to be jailbroken first before going to custom firmware

Did you say that you are restoring to 3.1 ? , If that is the case, since you have download the 3.1.3 ipsw , why don't you restore to 3.1.3 and then follow this guide to jailbreak your iphone at 3.1.3 :
    http://modmyi.com/guides/how-jailbre...-windows-os-x/
and you will also need 3.1.2 ipsw to point to while running Redsn0w.

Phone is working again, stock 3.1. I'll try the pwnage tool and see what happens. I guess at the worst, I'll have to start over again!
