Thread: Error 3194 trying to downgrade iPhone4 4.0.2 to 4.0.1

Default Error 3194 trying to downgrade iPhone4 4.0.2 to 4.0.1
I recently had a jailbroken 4.0.1, and I did 'make my life easier' and it had the message that SHSH blobs were backed up (it did not say 'this device has any pending tss requests', so I am pretty sure they should be backed up).

I put my device in DFU mode, and pointed it to the 4.0.1 ipsw for iPhone 4 (iPhone3,1_4.0.1_8A306_Restore.ipsw).

It starts the restore, and says that it is verifying it with Apple (insert snarky **** apple comment here). Then it gives a message saying 'The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194).

It is possible to downgrade to 4.0.1 in my case, correct? If so, am I doing something wrong?

you have to change your host file on your computer to redirect iTunes to saurik's server (cydia) here is a guide for that

Yes, I have already done that, and it still does the 3194 error.

I had a problem where my OTHER category had blown to about 7
    gigs, and i had corruption.
Only thing i could do is restore and itunes windows 9.2.1.5
would only let me CHECK iphone server and then restore and update.
This gave me 4.02 firmware after i restored and sync'd
I did put the saurik server line in the HOST file
(do you need a reboot after this?)
I put my phone in the BLANK dfu mode and itunes loaded
phone info shows N/A, N/A, and when you shift click on restore button or on the itunes phone name on the left, no other choices
come up.. no file to load from or backup.
just open, new and eject on iphone 4 name and cannot shift click on
the RESTORE radio button dialog, only option is to PRESS the restore button, does itunes 9.2.1.5 disable this shift/restore functionality?
    thanks

I tried this again, and whether i press SHIFT or not
the msg on the screen says:

Automatic checking for itunes is disabled
would you like itunes to check for new software update?
if you click NO, you are back to square one.
If you click YES, it brings you to restore and update
and does NOT give you the chance to load the 4.01
ipsw file from you own pc.

    ideas?

I'm running Server 2008 R2, maybe that matters somehow? I disabled UAC, and am part of the Administrators group, so iTunes and all associated processes are running as elevated administrator.

Did you close and reopen iTunes after you modified the host file?

I've tried it both ways. However, I just got it to work. I am at work, and we use a proxy. I switched to a direct internet connection, made sure the hosts file was correct and tried pinging gs.apple.com. This came back as gs.apple.com.akadns.net .. so I added this in the hosts file as well. Since the proxy was now out of the picture, I reran restore, and it worked.

Now I am getting error 1004 and the phone won't leave recovery mode. I tried
RecBoot, but I can not get it to work. I am guessing that libusb is failing as the test app is not running (even in compat mode).

Tinyumbrella should also be able to kick it out of recovery. That doesn't require libusb

    No, it will not

Then how did it work with him?

Can't we just trick apple into letting me downgrade

Because he has this thing backup in cydia:

I recently had a jailbroken 4.0.1, and I did 'make my life easier' and it had the message that SHSH blobs were backed up (it did not say 'this device has any pending tss requests', so I am pretty sure they should be backed up

no, shsh's blobs are device specific and can not be replicated or modified to work with other devices

    Than what can I do?
